  • Haven't used it yet but seed size fits well
Using for perfect placement

  • Move the rubber washer
Most important thing to know is MOVE the rubber washer/flange that is inside the seeder to the tip of the seeder. You can see proper placement in my picture. My pinkie finger is pointing to where the washer is intially. Yes, this seeder works. Personally not much more accurate than I am at seeding by hand. I tested it on carrots seeds, sometimes let's 3 out. Since basil seeds are smaller I'll not use it for those. I also find it irritating to load, see second picture. I run a small farm more than 4k sq feet of garden plus livestock. In the end I will use it, even if it's just to make my kids more accurate at planting seeds. ... show more

  • Gardening season not quite here yet . . .
One thing that is missing, is a nice, clear, instruction manual. I've mentally flagged this seeder, to come back to, for a better evaluation when gardening starts up.

  • Doesn't help much, I'm back to using my fingers
The media could not be loaded. Carrot seeds are always hard to sow for me because they are small so I thought it would be a good seed to test with the mini-seedmaster sower, see video. The seeds came out but still in groups and sporadically. I tested this multiple times in addition to just using my fingers to seed. Honestly, after using the mini-seedmaster for about 30 minutes I was so done with this little gadget. It's better, faster, and easier just to use your fingers to sow your small seeds. Then once germinated thin the plants out to the desired space. Save your money and buy an extra packet or two of your favorite seeds :) Pros: Holds a bunch of seeds With practice you can get just an OK line of seeds Cons: Cheap plastic and a spring Not a good value Doesn't work that well ... show more

  • Not perfect but serviceable
I used this for vegetable seeds. It works well for bigger seeds like tomatoes and peppers. I can control the output to some extent based on how far i depress the plunger. I was looking for 3 seeds per pump and i'd get 2-4, so close enough. The truly tiny seeds like oregano and rosemary are too small to control much, one slight depression on the plunger and i'd have 6-8 seeds. Any more depression and i have all of them! Overall, i was happy enough with the product. It costs $5 and was much better than me using my fingers. I like the syringe look and feel, it was easy to operate and handle. Arthritic gardeners might have trouble controlling the amount they depress the plunger, it's easy to get too many seeds at once. I don't think this would be ideal for huge gardens, but i planted 4 seed flats of 72 in no time. i think it will be helpful for garden rows also where i'm on my hands and knees as i plant. I'm not sure how long the spring mechanism will last--it's already a little stiff--but not too worried about longevity in a $5 product. I would recommend. it's not the end all be all of seed dispersal but it's good enough to recommend. ... show more

  • A back-saver
I've used this little device twice since purchase, to plant radishes and carrots. It did not meet my original hope of surgically dropping exactly one seed with each push of the plunger; nevertheless it was helpful. With the radishes, each push released from zero to three seeds into the furrow. The carrot seeds are so small that each push released a light sprinkle; but with practice I learned to swing the seeder as it discharged the product. It worked smoothly, without jamming. This device is made of cheap plastic like you see on toys and giveaway ballpoint pens. I don't see it lasting more than a couple of seasons, but when mine breaks I will replace it immediately. That's because it got the job done in record time, and my poor aching back was spared the usual agony. And when the seedlings emerged, they were spaced better, far better, than I had ever achieved with hand seeding. ... show more

  • Adjust the little rubber ring inside and align groove
After reading some reviews and first receiving the item I considered returning it. The seeds seem to fall out ect. But after looking at it there is a small rubber ring inside that needs to maybe be adjusted (easy with a pen or slim tool) It needed pushed down so the the plunger and spring were tighter and no play or wiggle. Then also i noticed that if you pressed just one side of the rubber ring a little adjusting the groove side of the rod so it faced down and in contact with the dispenser hole that it dispensed small seeds much more accurately. I like it now and use it to fill trays or do radishes and carrots ect into their rows. ... show more
