  • WATCH out for sizes. Description sizes misleading!
Style: Standard Swivel-Gripper
I bought the "standard size" option. Well, it was too BIG fully closed. The size descriptions on here should be 'small, medium, and large'. Standard as it is labeled here, was way too big, and I'm talking about an oil filter for a Chevy Silverado truck. When closed to its tightest grip, it still had about 3/4" of a gap between it and the filter. This means this is not standard, and apparently I needed to order the one labeled "extra small". I have never heard of 'extra small' in all my years doing mechanic. There's either small (which technically IS standard), then medium (standard again, just with a bigger base oil filter,) and large, for the fat oil filters. If the one I purchased is labeled standard, and it was too big for my filter, I can only imagine what the Large one would be for. How big do they think the Large oil filters are, the size of water coolers? So be careful, because what is described here as "standard" is really one size bigger than ACTUAL standard normal size/diameter oil filters. There shouldn't be anything labeled "Extra small" that's not even a thing. This means that technically for my Silverado regular size oil filter, I would've had to order the "extra small one" which by the description, I would never think that would be it. I hope they change it and just label it correctly. -Regular standard -Standard wide -Extra Large And give a list of compatible oil filters according to the sizes at least. ... show more

  • Great strap oil filter wrench for an unbeatable price
Style: Standard Swivel-Gripper
As a General Motors automotive technician I need a larger wrench for diesel fuel filters and oil filters. Strap wrenches are inherently simple in design and there isn't much variation possible between brands, however the Lisle filter wrench stands out like a beacon of gold. The handle is very ergonomic, the wrench itself doesn't flex or "crush" under extreme pressure, the welded gripping surfaces on the band itself are invaluable for loosening Duramax fuel filters without removing the fender well. I've struggled with many different strap wrenches from snap on, Mac, and matco tools - paying 5 times the price for something that is flimsy to begin with and doesn't last over a year before the band is all bent and I can't exert pressure without the filter crushing. This is by far the most sturdy, comfortable and useful filter wrench I have ever owned and I expect a long life out of it. Unbelievable value. Wish I would have purchased sooner. ... show more

  • Fits filter sizing as described
Style: Extra Small Swivel-Gripper
Exactly the two that I was looking forward to remove a small filter on my Infiniti G 35. The filter on my car is like 2.75 inches and I actually don’t have anything to remove such a small filter. This filter wrench Grips very well the way it is designed. The tool is very sturdy and I have on a couple of other miles for different sizes. Check out the pictures ... show more

  • Good for tight spaces and plastic materials.
Style: Standard Swivel-Gripper
You can have all the filter wrenches in the world, but if you don't have a small handled band type like this one, then when you have to do modern diesel fuel filters, you will have a bad time. Some filter wrenches have the nylon band but are 2 feet long, and aren't sutible for engine bays. Some use chains or have jaws, which can fit engine bays, but will tear oil filter and fuel filter caps if they are plastic (and the caps can be $20-$200). I use this primarily to remove chassis mounted fuel filters on Cummins 6.7L engines, as it grips hard and tight, and doesn't puncture the filter. ... show more

  • The last filter wrench I’ll ever need to buy
Style: Standard Swivel-Gripper
I like to spend the extra money and buy good quality tools that work great and last, oddly that rule has never applied to oil filter wrenches though. I’ve used the cheap auto part store metal band wrenches that fall apart after limited light use, the canvas strap wrenches that don’t grip well, the goofy ones you put on a ratchet with the fingers that are useless, the rubber strap wrenches they shouldn’t even sell they break so easy and finally decided I’m done with all the garbage. Changing my own oil should be a simple task, not a test in frustration by doing it with a junk filter wrench. I finally searched for the best wrench for this I could find, I didn’t care how much it was going to cost, I found this one and after using it just one time I would have gladly paid 2-3 times more for it if that’s what this would have cost. It’s solid, it’s heavy, it’s a well thought out design, you can tell it’s the last filter wrench you’ll ever want or need to buy. This 3.5-3.875” wrench worked perfectly for my LLY Duramax Baldwin B1441 oil filter and CAT 1R-0750 (or stock Duramax) fuel filter. It’s too big for my AirDog FF100-2 lift pump fuel filter so I’m going to order another one of these in the smaller size for that. If you aren’t sure what size wrench you need just look up the specs on the filter you want to use on the manufacturers website, they’ll list the filter dimensions. Zoom in on the picture of these wrenches, it shows the size range on the handle. ... show more

  • Works OK but . . .
Style: Extra Small Swivel-Gripper
. . . have a couple of issues with it. While the oil filter on my Nissan Versa Note is within the range of this tool, it seems to fit too loose, or the band is too large. To get it to work I have to pull on the tool and then try to torque the filter off. Another hassle with these band-type filter removers is you have to use it in the right orientation, so 50% of the time it won't work unless you use the tool daily and it becomes second nature. Finally, the handles are rather thick and bulky which is not ideal for tight spaces. I also have the Channellock 9" pliers and it's my go-to tool since it's much more compact and idiotproof to use. ... show more

  • Very strong didn’t break or slip even with a 2 foot cheater pipe.
Style: Large Swivel-Gripper
Just managed to take off a super stuck fleetguard lf254 fuel filter with 2 of this wrench at the same time. The filter is complete smashed afterward but both of the wrenches are still perfectly fine even after the abuse by a 2 foot cheater pipe. I like the compact size that is much easier to manage in a tight spot than some other wrench. If this couldn’t take off a stuck filter, double up even triple up will get it off. The grip is very tight. ... show more
