Description

Perfect Your Build with True 4.0 Performance Easy troubleshooting steps to resolve issues: Step 1: Update BIOS on both Motherboard and GPU Update to the newest firmware / BIOS / software for the motherboard and GPU. The newest update can be obtained from the manufacturer's website. Step 2: Set BIOS to optimal default Overclocking is the main reason for the system to become unstable in Gen 4 setting. Reset BIOS to optimal default may resolve the issue and allow the system to run under Gen 4 without issue. Step 3: Try to boot without the riser cable Make sure the system can boot properly without the riser cable. Step 4: Clean the connector contacts on the riser cable and GPU Cleaning the connector contact (Gold Fingers) on both GPU and riser cable with rubbing alcohol to remove possible particle build-up. Step 5: Ensure the cable is fully and securely inserted into the socket Please make sure the male connector (Gold Fingers) is fully inserted into the motherboard’s PCIe socket. Our riser has a very short pin designed to provide better insertion loss. The pins may not be in full contact with the PCIe socket pins resulting in signal lanes drop from x16 to x8, or worse at x4 speed. Make sure you choose the right length cables. Too long or too short may both result in performance loss. Step 6: Try a different PCI-e slot (Always choose the PCIe slot closest to the CPU) If the motherboard has multiple Gen 4 PCIe slots, try to install the cable on a different slot. Step 7: I have done all of the above and I’m still having trouble with the riser cable PCI-E specifications do not regulate the use of a riser cable. As a result, Gen 4 motherboards are designed to connect the GPU directly. Hence leave a limited headroom for the use of a riser cable, and the use of a riser cable may fail when the insertion loss is over the limits due to poor components used in motherboards. Not all motherboards and GPUs are manufactured to the same quality, some have higher headroom than the other. In these rare cases, the easiest ways to resolve the problem are: Exchange another riser cable to try. (If shorter length works, always choose a shorter length) Exchange another motherboard of the same brand. Exchange motherboard for a different brand. (99% of the customers have completely resolved the issue at this point) If none of these works, please get in touch with us directly and provide us with your system information (model/make of MB, CPU, GPU, PC case). We are happy to provide a solution. Please do not allow cable to directly touch the backplate of GPU which may generate temperatures higher than the riser cables' maximum operating temperature of 75 degrees celsius. If direct contact is unavoidable, applying thermal tape is strongly recommended Plan for the Perfect Build LINKUP PCIe Riser Cables are designed for various configurations: 270 ° "Left Angle - Downward" cables allow for the graphics card to extend down from the riser cable PCIe interface if the cable is kept straight.180 ° "Straight" cables allow for the graphics card to extend straight out from the motherboard and riser cable PCIe interface if the cable is kept straight.90 ° "Right Angle - Upward" cables allow for graphics cards to extend up from the riser cable PCIe interface if the cable is kept straight. These angles and orientations are based on a standard vertically mounted motherboard configuration. The "component side" of the graphics card is usually the side most desired for GPU viewing. • Updated review, What you need to know, and do you need this cable?
I have been vertically mounting GPU's for awhile, I upgraded to a 3090 RTX card when available and had to switch back to horizontal mounting. Why? Because the vertical mounting kit I was previously using had a riser cable that simply did not work with Nvidia 3000 series GPU's. Ordered this cable and it works now, back to vertical mounting! I ordered the 20cm, my case is a Lian Li 011 XL. To be honest it is a tiny bit long, I think I could have gotten by with the 15cm cable, but it would have been a close fit. With newer cards like the 3080 etc I would even suggest vertical mounting is functionally a better choice too in a large case. I saw the temps on my RAM and various other system points go down anywhere from 2-5 celcius after switching back to vertical. This is because the horizontal mount blocked the intake from the fans at the bottom of my case, and placed the GPU much much closer to the other components on the mobo. Meanwhile the GPU itself under full load basically hit the same max temp regardless of mounting orientation. UPDATED NOTES: I am seeing the same questions asked constantly and relentlessly, which cable should I buy, what length, etc etc etc. The answers are almost always the same, so read on if you want to know which one you should buy or if you even should buy one. 1: Right angle or Straight? Answer - Is your case an ITX case? If not, the answer is Right Angle, the end. Doesn't matter if it is full tower, mid tower, or what vertical mounting adapter you are using. Unless your case is an ITX case you want the Right Angle version. If you ARE using an ITX or Mini ITX case you want the Straight angle. 2: Will it work with my motherboard XYZ into infinity? Answer - Is the primary PCI Express slot of your motherboard PCI-E 3.0 or higher compliant? If the answer is yes, then yes, this cable will work with your motherboard. 3: Which length should I buy? Answer 1 - If your case is a ATX Mid Tower or Full Tower case you are almost guaranteed to be fine with the 20cm length. If anything it will probably be slightly long. You may even be okay with the 15 cm length, for example with the Phanteks P500A case (which I have used in computer builds) the 15cm version will be long enough though it will be a little snug. Any less than 15 I probably wouldn't risk it unless you are vertically mounting the GPU in the highest possible position. For reference both of the riser cables included with the old Phanteks vertical mount kit and the new EKWB kits are around 18cm. Answer 2 - But what if I have an ITX case? Then you probably already had a riser cable included with the case. You need to remove that riser cable, measure it, and order accordingly. I am sorry but doing anything else is just rolling the dice unless you have specific manufacturer documentation stating the required length. 4: The question you should ask but probably don't... Do I even need this cable? Answer - That depends. Do you need to replace your existing riser cable for some reason? Maybe it went bad or there was a recall on it? If so than this cable is a good choice. Alternatively, are you in my situation where you upgraded to a newer card like a RXT 3080 or Ryzen 6800XT and your new GPU wouldn't work with your old riser cable? Then yes, this cable is a great buy. However if you are buying this cable for no reason other than "PCI-E 4.0!!!!!!" You absolutely do not need, and should not buy this cable. You are extremely unlikely to get true PCI-E 4.0 speed over a riser cable, even this one. Also extensive tests have been done by many trusted tech groups and reviewers that have proven forced PCI-E 4.0 has extremely minimal performance gain over 3.0. Most often less than 5% gain, sometimes as little as 1%. A theoretical maybe gain of a couple percent (which translates generally to only 1-3 frames) is not worth 70 dollars. The thing that makes this cable good is that it has been factory tested with all modern graphics cards and is guaranteed to work with them. No other riser cable on the market that I know of, and certainly no included riser cable that comes with a kit, can claim the same. The PCI-E 4.0 compatibility is a cool marketing spiel, but it is not a reason to buy this riser cable. 4.0 compliance does not mean 4.0 speeds. ... show more

  • Fixed black screen, no-post, game crash issues on PCIE 4.0 mode EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra
I have a Lian-Li O11 Dynamic XL case with the Lian-Li vertical GPU mount bracket. It worked fine with my old GPU which was a 1080 Ti running PCIE 3.0. I had a lot of issues with the new GPU and was blaming a faulty card until I realized after setting PCIE mode to 3.0 in the BIOS fixed all the issues. The system is an X570 mobo with a Ryzen 5950x. Everything should support PCIE 4.0. I wanted to give a new riser cable that "supports" PCIE 4.0 a try and saw this. I just installed it and so far everything works fine with PCIE 4.0 enabled. Did some quick gaming etc to test and everything works! If it still gives me issues, I will update this review, but for now you can assume it works with PCIE 4.0 cards. ... show more

  • Works, but with some issues
So, first of all, the card works with my Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master v1.1 motherboard just fine, at least it seemed that way at first. I didn't have a PCIe 4.0 device to test it with, but it had no problem even when gaming with my RTX 2080 Ti. I was getting this Riser in anticipation of the new GPUs coming out hopefully soon. So while the cable seemed to work just fine under stress tests in gaming, as soon as I put on some headphones I noticed a very annoying buzz in my audio. In my fiddling around I narrowed it down that the buzz got worse whenever a game was in the foreground. I did jack up the volume on my speakers and noticed the buzz is still there just much harder to hear on the speakers. It is also there whether I'm gaming or not. It just gets louder as the load on the GPU increases. So with the source of the issue found, I started trying to fix it. At first I thought it was because my vertical GPU mount was literally resting against my sound card (yes I still have a good ol' Sound Card, I really should get a good DAC). So, I swapped back to the integrated Sound Card on my MB, and the buzz was still there. The buzz only happens if I am using the Vertical GPU mount. What I think the issue is the first ribbon cable seems to have little to no insulation, which is leading to crosstalk with traces or something else on my MB. Probably not enough to affect data integrity, but enough to introduce this buzz in my audio. But, I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch, so that is just a guess from noticing there was an unshielded ribbon. So, while it works, and the issue could be easily worked around on my part (already have an external DAC in my cart), I can't recommend this product with this issue. It also has me concerned on what would happen if I really did have a PCIe Gen4 device on it, where the tolerances for interference are much tighter. ... show more

  • Tested... Yes it is Gen 4
Capacity: *Ultra PCIE 4.0 Right Angle Color: Right Angle [30cm]--
TL/DR... Works for me at Gen 4 speed with no hangups. Full Story... Asus Strix X570-F with Bios Version 3001 (Latest 12/8 ish), 5800X CPU, 3600 CL16 Ram, Zotac 3090, Sabrent Rocket Gen 4 M.2... All settings regarding Gen3/Gen4 are set to auto in BIOS and always have been. I set my GPU up for vertical mounting using this cable with absolutely no other changes and Voila. Booted straight to windows. Games run fine. No stutters or odd sounds or any of the other things I read about in the reviews. No issue having to change the BIOS from auto to Gen 4. The reviews are the reason I am writing this. I was nervous myself to spend this much money on a part I was unsure of. Your mileage may vary but I had absolutely no issues with the hardware I listed above. I hope this was helpful. ... show more
