Description

The Lifetime 1221 Pro Court Adjustable Portable Basketball Hoop with 44 Inch Impact Backboard is perfect for recreational home use. The Lifetime 1221 portable basketball system features a 44 inch Polyethylene backboard, a classic basketball rim and a 27 gallon Pro Court base. The telescoping post allows you to adjust the basketball goal from 7.5-10 feet in 6 inch increments, so that players of any age can enjoy the game at their level. Hone your jump shot in your spare moments or perform a backyard dunking drill with this Lifetime portable basketball system. Unlike in-ground basketball hoops--which are typically anchored in concrete--this portable hoop rolls on wheels, letting you position the basket support in your desired location, from the back patio to the middle of the cul-de-sac. All you have to do is fill the 27-gallon base with water or sand and play. The Lifetime hoop adjusts from 7.5 to 10 feet in 6-inch increments. Lifetime knows that younger players aren't always ready for a 10-foot hoop, which is why the basket boasts a height-adjustment mechanism. The telescoping mechanism adjusts from 7.5 to 10 feet in 6-inch increments--no tools required--letting players of all ages and skill levels enjoy the game on their own terms. Aspiring dunkers can also gradually raise the basket 6 inches at a time as their vertical improves, although the 18-inch solid steel rim is not a breakaway rim. The black rim is instead extremely stable, with 1/2-inch steel braces, welded steel net hooks, and a 50-gram net. And players needn't worry about the 44-inch backboard wearing dramatically over time thanks to the UV-protected, high-density polyethylene construction. This sturdy plastic material helps the board resist chipping and cracking while protecting the graphics from fading. Also equipped with a black, powder-coated, three-piece pole, the Lifetime system carries a five-year warranty. About Lifetime In the beginning, all the founder of Lifetime Products wanted was a sturdier basketball pole for his backyard. With this in mind, he found and purchased a piece of heavy-duty used pipe, a sheet of plywood, and a basketball rim. The resulting backyard basketball standard functioned perfectly in his backyard. Seeing the potential of his hoop, he placed an ad in the local free classified newspaper and made his first sale. The rest--as they say--is history. He created the American PlayWorld Company in 1973, based out of his garage in Riverdale, Utah. After expanding into several other types of playground equipment, he eventually moved to a bigger location in South Ogden, Utah. Several years later, the company transformed the basketball industry by introducing the Quick Adjust basketball pole, the first complete basketball system you could raise and lower with a broomstick. In 1986, American PlayWorld created Lifetime Products, a separate company intended to concentrate specifically on manufacturing adjustable basketball systems. In the ensuing years, the company has grown from having 18 employees in a 32,000-square-foot space in half a warehouse to more than 1,400 employees and 2.6 million square feet over 23 separate buildings.

  • Has met expectations for the past 5 years!
I put this entire thing together by myself. It's pretty simple and the instructions were not confusing. The quality of the product is great. I've moved it in and out of the garage more than a dozen times and the base is still holding water without any leaks. I've had this for 3.5 months. It's in the garage for the winter and it's too soon to comment on handling the elements with regard to rusting or fading. Update --- November 26, 2017 --- it's been one year and it looks and functions as good as new. No bend in the hoop, no color fading on the backboard, no loose bolts, no leaks in the base, and no rust on the stand. Over the past year, it's been garage kept when not in use. However, I've kept it out on the weekends this past summer as long as no rain was expected. This Fall, I've left it out all day and night (plenty of sun and rain). It gets used almost daily. It has held up well to the elements. I'm very happy with the purchase and the price is fair compared to the competition. Update.... Two years old and no issues, absolutely no sign of fading or deteriorating. It's been left out for months at a time and other times brought into the garage. Update....... 3.5 years and still solid. Left it out all Summer and Fall. I checked all the bolts and nuts but nothing is loose or rusted. I used some WD-40 and a wire brush on on small spot on the back of the pole that appeared to be developing rust. Otherwise, still great. Update.... 4 years. It's been out since February this year (it's July/2020). No rust, no fading, nothing is loose, no leaking from the base. This thing is solid. I paid $100 four years ago. Still as good as new. Update with photographs at 4.5 years.... No issues, no fading, no cracks, no leaks, but I did find rust on the inside of the pole. All of the photos are after 4.5 years of use and wear in the elements. This basketball hoop has stood up pretty well and looks almost new. Update… 5 years (July 2021). It’s been outside since the Spring and it’s now July. No change in appearance or functionality. No leaks. Even the net is in perfect condition. Update…. 5 years, 10 months (April 2022). Left it outside since last Spring. Absolutely no issues with it. Snow, rain, sun, sleet, heavy wind, … it’s been tested and has passed. Looks just as new as when purchased almost 6 years ago. Update….. purchased in July 2016 and here we are December 2022. 6.5 years and still perfectly fine. I have kept it outside all year long and it’s got no rust, no cracks, even the netting is fine (which is surprising). If this review was helpful, please click the "helpful" button. ... show more

  • easy and fun!!
My kids have been wanting a hoop for the driveway, but I really didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a set up and have them lose interest. This one seemed nice for the price...and it IS! It arrived in a big cardboard box...no extra shipping cost. It is heavy though. I had to move it by myself out of the driveway, and just used a scooter to roll the box to our patio for assembly. You can assemble with one person, although 2 makes it easier. READ the directions. We had some bolts included that were different from the ones described, but could figure it out. Make sure you tip it over to attach the backboard to the pole...there is no standing on ladders (in fact the directions say you shouldn't put it upright until it is attached. My husband and 12-year old son did most of the assembly together, but they did get stuck where the two little metal arms screw into the backboard. They said that it didn't line up correctly and got stuck. Mommy figured out that the backboard needed to be pulled up at the top (not the whole thing sliding north) and the last two screws went in easily then. There is a little crater in base to hold the ball, which is nice. We just filled our reservoir base with water (not sand) because for our needs, we knew it would be drained more easily in the fall when it will be rolled into the garage. I don't know how you would get sand out of there. There are wheels on the front of the base so it can be tipped, but it is really heavy to move around when full. I guess this is a good thing (my nephew never filled his on his hoop and it tipped over and broke his windshield one night!) but if you want it to move around often, it won't be easy. We also don't change the height up and down with any regularity, but it would probably behoove you to use two people for this task. The kids have really had a blast with it. We have it at the 10 foot height, since they are 12, and it is pretty close to regulation...however the backboard seems smaller than a "real" one. Some reviewers noted that they did not like the pole not being offset from the backboard. And a more expensive hoop would have that feature, but we haven't had any trouble with it...the base is big enough that you really aren't running under the basket. Overall, we are very happy with it. We have played many games of horse and simple one-on-one with it. It is a very well-spent hundred bucks! Much better than so many other expensive toys that just sit untouched after a month or so. I even used taking foul shots as a game to let them choose chores (the winner got to pick the job he wanted...the loser had to take the other one.)Even mommy and daddy like to bet a few dollars on hard shots! ha ha!! ... show more
