  • Great

This is a great ssd for the buck, it works great I have nothing negative to say about it. My game boot times have been cut more than half. Will purchase again.

I have a 10 year old D*ll 8700 XPS, and when doing a cold boot, the disk would spin for a good 15 minutes at 100%! Unusable during that time. I was thinking that wouldn't it be great if I could drop in an m.2 drive. I looked at the manual, and it mentioned "mSATA". The rest is history. Updated the BIOS. Installing was easy, but I already had some screws from an earlier m.2 drive install on another computer. You'll be needing those. Cloned with Macrium reflect. Temporarily unplugged the old drive, and it didn't boot from the SSD! Its little red light was blinking, but that was all. Sad. Fearful. WTH? So, I plugged back in the old, and... to my delighted surprise it booted from the new one. The performance with the SSD is like a big black cloud has been lifted. So much better. With this drive I now never see the disk go to 100%! ... show more

  • Great Value for the Price, Be aware heatsink is very difficult to take off without damaging.
Size: 4TB Style: Gen4 PCIe
So first things first, I got the gen 4 6.6k MB/s version of the drives. Bought 2 to replace a couple other drives that failed on me. Be aware these run hot out of the box..so hot in fact that I couldn't restore one of my 4tb drives without one of the drives disconnecting during extended continuous transfer sessions. I didnt have another third party heatsink at the time, so I ended up having to stick a fan right over the drives while restoring my backup of the failed drive. Doing this I was able to transfer continuously for 6-10 hrs without issue. Seeing as heat with the included heatsinks are an issue, I decided to get a pair of quality copper heatsinks to stick on them. This is where you really need to be careful. The included heatsinks are on the new versions of the drive already affixed to the PCB and are impossible to remove by peeling them off without damaging somethin on the PCB due to the very strong glue/adhesive. The solution is get either some dental floss or fishing line. Thread the line/floss in between the heatsink and chips on the PCB back and forth like a sawing motion, slowly working your way down. This will help break the bond between the adhesive and chips on the pcb, while workin your way down you can slowly and gently start to peel the heatsink off, once done take some rubbing alcohol and clean off the chips and controller. This took me about 30-40 minutes for two drives. ... show more

  • Update to my previous review of DOA
I've put in a replacement request. For now though, this review will stay at 1/5 stars due to DOA regardless of m.2 2280 slot used on my MSI Z690 Tomahawk and my external SSK NVMe enclosure. Update 03/20/2023: My replacement drive arrived within minutes of the estimated arrival time. The drive is healthy, being initialized and formatted within minutes. That said, it hasn't hit data transfer rates matching what I'd expect between a Silicon Power P34A80 and this drive via USB-C (USB 3.1 Type-C 10 Gb/s or ~1250 MB/s), but from the files I've currently transferred, getting to ~800 MB/s is good enough for me given that this drive, at the time of purchase, was only 80 USD. I will update further in case some of the other reviews I've seen warning about short lifespans turn to be a problem, but for now I am happy to leave this as a 5/5. ... show more
