  • A truly excellent yeast an a very good price
Size: 1 Pound (Pack of 1)
Two issues close to any baker's heart: quality and cost. The quality of this yeast is really excellent; of the various yeasts I've used, I like this one the best. It imparts a light, slightly sweet taste to the breads and pastries we make that adds delightfully to their flavor profile. This is, essentially, a pastry-type yeast but it has worked very well with everything we've used it in, from pastries to solid, hearty breads. Yeast like Fleischmann's is .. well ... yeast and I'm not disparaging it but this yeast has a different and very delightful character that has caused us to switch to it exclusively. We first purchased this yeast in 2020; at the beginning of the COVID epidemic, yeast was sold out at all our supermarkets; you could rarely find it anywhere, locally, and when you could it was around $3 for a .25oz packet. Even now, Fleischmann's activated yeast is about $6 for a 4oz jar. By contrast, this yeast was $10/POUND. It holds up very well over time if kept refrigerated. As I said, we purchased the 1lb. package of this yeast for the first time in 2020; we are only running out now and have ordered another pound. During the entire 4 years we've used it it has performed perfectly with no degradation in its flavor or performance. I cannot recommend it highly enough. ... show more

  • Best Yeast ever.
Size: 1 Pound (Pack of 1)
This is a lot of yeast, put it in the freezer in an airtight storage container. It will keep nicely.

  • Its Alive!
Size: 1 Pound (Pack of 1)
Im not an experienced baker but ive had experience with instant yeast that would not rise probably because it was old. I had no issues upon first use. I made these bao buns and they came out great. The dough doubled within 40 minutes. This amount of yeast you're getting is a lot. Its packaged tightly and feels like a brick until you cut it open. I stored it in 4 separate 6oz Mason jars and froze all except one jar that im keeping in the fridge to use. Im buying this again once I run out. ... show more

  • Easter bread
Size: 1 Pound (Pack of 1)
Loved how I could just add it to the flour. The rise on my bread was beautiful! My first time using this yeast and it will be my go to from now on!

  • Well packaged, adequate expiration date, good yeast
Size: 1 Pound (Pack of 1)
I really like this gold yeast for my sweeter breads. I paid $5.99 from Metro Distribution Inc., shipped by Amazon. Seems there's a different seller now. Not sure what price others are complaining about but this is a good price. Back during the flour and yeast shortage, I paid > $20 for a pound of red yeast so this is a deal. It came well packaged inside a cardboard box, inside a plastic bag, inside a padded mailer. The yeast package itself was hard as a rock as it should be until the vacuum seal is broken. The expiration date (both on the box and the yeast package) is 01/2022. I had purchased this same yeast from King Arthur Flour 4 months ago for $6.95 and it had an expiration of 02/2022 so this one is not as fresh so only 4 stars instead of 5 but it still has plenty of time left on the clock. I hadn't even realized that there was a date on these packages as it's not obvious but if you look carefully at the seam on the back of the package you'll see small numbers printed vertically that align more or less with the words on the left side of the back of the package for Date of Production, Best if Used By and Manufacturing Lot. ... show more

  • BEST YEAST I EVER USED
Size: 1 Pound (Pack of 1)
With Corona virus and these lockdowns it is next to impossible to buy yeast here in Arizona. A reviewer did not think it was authentic because his pack said it was produced in Mexico. Companies will often setup division in other countries to save on cost of shipping to other parts of the world. One user said the red label of SAF yeast was better. The red and gold labels are different. The red is for regular bread baking. The gold is for baking breads like sweet rolls because this yeast has a higher tolerance for sugar For years I used Feishmanns active dry yeast. Then this pandemic came and I could not find my yeast of choice so I tried this, and VERY GLAD I DID! You may. Be thinking “What am I going to do with a pound of yeast!” That is a legitimate concern here’s two ideas. 1 yeast will be good for years after the expiration date if you protect the yeast from light and heat. I put part of the yeast in the bottle at room temperature. The rest was put in a clean dry glass jar and stored in the bottom drawer of the fridge. To protect the yeast from light I wrapped the bottle in Black plastic. 2. Share some of the yeast with a neighbor who needs it. I love fresh hot bread. So I use my bread machine 2-3 times a week. I also brew my own wine. Why would I brew wine? Lots of reasons. Bread yeast keeps more of the fruit flavors from the juice than wine yeast. Brewing wine is stupid simple. Combine juice, sugar and yeast and let the yeast do their job All fermented foods sauerkraut, kimchi, Kefir and homemade wine are rich in probiotics to keep your gut biome healthy. By the way over 70% of your immune system is there in your gut biome. Commercial wines have been treated with potassium metabisulfite or potassium sorbate to kill the yeast. Unfortunately these chemicals also kill the helpful bacteria and probiotics. For years they completely overlooked the probiotics in homemade wine because they thought the alcohol would also kill the helpful bacteria and probiotics but research has started coming in and what they are finding is simply incredible. I cannot post links in reviews so if you are interested email me. When I make the wine I decide whether it will be a sweet or dry wine. You do this by adjusting the amount of sugar you add to the must. For baking bread and brewing wine this yeast is incredible ... show more

  • Gread for Bread, not so good for making beer.
Size: 1 Pound (Pack of 1)
Just kidding about the beer, if I wanted to brew beer I'd buy brewers yeast. I keep about 2/3 in the freezer and the rest in the fridge in mason jars. Stays lively for years.
