    • A powerhouse of a machine at a great price!
I'd like to begin my review by first providing a general overview of what a Chromebook is for those unfamiliar. A Chromebook is no different from most any other laptop - except that it runs the ChromeOS instead of Windows, macOS, or Linux. It's basically the Chrome browser with an Android backend, so you also get the Play store and everything that comes with it. Can you game on this device? Not really, given the processor isn't supported (yet) by the Steam beta ChromeOS client, but that may change in the future. Now onto the device itself. This is a bigger boy, with a massive 15.6" touchscreen. This also means you get a full sized keyboard that includes the number pad. I actually prefer larger laptops, so for me this is perfect. It's not light by any means, but at this size you can't expect it to be. That said, if you're after ultra portability you might want to look elsewhere. The screen is crisp and clear, and the touch response feels just as good as my smartphone. The flex aspect is an interesting bonus, allowing you to turn the device into a large tablet. This works great, except for one thing. In this tablet mode the speakers are on the rear of the device, so the sound becomes harder to hear even at higher volumes and gets a bit echoey. Now in normal mode the speakers are great considering the size, but it may have been useful for them to add vents to allow the sound to better project forward when in tablet mode. Obviously if you're using headphones this is a non issue. Outside of the screen and sound, the keyboard is responsive and the keys have good travel. The cameras are also crisp, which is not something I expected at this price point (especially given built-in cameras tend to suck on laptops). Battery life has been nothing short of incredible. I can't kill the thing, and I'm not a casual user. But for the time I need a laptop I can get everything I want done and it still has plenty of life left. I can easily see over ten hours of constant use, excepting video streaming for such a period. I used the Play store Windows RDP client to connect to my work PC, so any limitations of the ChromeOS are irrelevant given you can just connect to a standard PC if needed. Overall, this thing is a beast for the price. It responds very similarly to the Lenovo X1 Carbon, but at a fraction of the price. If you're a casual user, it's got absolutely everything you need for a day to day machine. If you need more functionality it can be your RDP gateway into a more powerful system. This easily warrants a 5 star rating, and I would highly recommend it as an IT engineer. ... show more

This laptop is a great at home, casual use computer. It is not as advanced and fancy as some other types, but it is an affordable choice. The touchscreen is easily responsive, and very helpful when turning the computer into tablet mode. Overall the machine runs smoothly, quietly, and does not overheat quickly.     • This is not your high school Chromebook
My first impression is that this is a real chonker! With the almost full-sized keyboard with the numeric keypad, this is a laptop that really wants you to know it's there and taking up space. This is not a Chromebook you're going to slip into a small backpack. This is not the tiny, underpowered Chromebook that gets doled out to schoolkids by the truckload, it's a really nice, powerful machine. The screen is big and clear, and the system is fast and responsive. I immediately installed several of the Android apps I use routinely, and the process was simple, an they ran great. The ability to flip the screen over and operate in tablet mode is nice, though I find that the whole thing is too large and thick to use for any amount of time as a tablet, but it is nice to be able to flip it open for more of a display mode. If you need to routinely perform productivity tasks, and can comfortably live in the ChromeOS/Android ecosystem, this is an excellent, relatively inexpensive, portable solution. ... show more

    • Very happy with it
This is my first foray into Chromebooks. I have been an Android user on both phones and tablets for a very long time but never switched my laptop over. I mainly got this for my son to use for school work but wanted to test it as an adult as well for my review. As an internet and email machine this works very well. I have not jumped into trying to run windows programs on it but since it works with the Google Play Store I can get to the necessities like RD Client and can even use it for work. I have not noticed any issues watching videos or browsing the web on it and tablet mode is great as well, although a 15.6" tablet is quite large! The quality of the computer itself is great. It feels much nicer than my 4 year old Acer and has more features as well. I am still getting used to the concept of a touchscreen computer but that is convenient as well. Overall if you need a simple machine for getting some work done or just want the convenience of a tablet with a real keyboard, this is a great combo. It is a bit large to be primarily used a a tablet if that is all you really want but for me to go from the desk to the couch it is handy. ... show more

I am duly impressed with this very fully featured Chromebook, which doubles as a tablet via the integrated "Flex" feature. It basically "transforms" from a standard laptop configuration with keyboard to a touchscreen tablet using the clever "hinge" design. The tablet itself is very handsome looking, and the overall build quality is excellent. The performance is very snappy and can handle anything you throw at it without lag. Even the sound quality is surprisingly dynamic, it is definitely the best sounding laptop I've ever had, and I've had dozens over the years. The full-size display is very crisp and bright, it's full High Def, and this Chromebook also incorporates a full size "ten-key" pad, which is something that most Chromebooks have not historically provided. The number pad makes it so much easier to create spreadsheets or data entry, it's a huge bonus. This Chromebook really comes to play and has upped the ante in this particular niche. For home or student use, this really can serve as the "de facto" device to smoothly handle all daily tasks such as email, browsing, streaming, etc. And as the Chromebook integrates word processing and spreadsheet creation along with built virus protection, this unit makes an extremely strong statement.
