Fairly sturdy - and they serve the purpose for the closets. I deconstructed ALL the closets in my '65 Ranch house. These units were the most efficient of my time, $$, and use of organized space. I ONLY wish we could purchase extra poles - to make use of the shelf units not used. ** Example: I did not use the small middle shelves, BUT, I could use them elsewhere. Moved the girls to the bonus room and needed a closet for them. This holds all their clothes, with a section for the baskets. It is sturdy and holds a lot of weight. It has been a great investment. I did like how it gave you several options for ways to set up, and instructions for each set up.
