  • When dependable response is paramount.
Size: Strength 2.00
Played great right out of the box. No soaking in water prior. I have 3 in my case used only for public performances. Can't trust cane reeds for continuity so I use them strictly at home.

  • Great sounding reed!
Size: Strength 2.00
This was my first try with a synthetic reed. The first time I played it, I was extremely pleased. Great sound. It is weird not having to keep a reed moist, but also easier. I immediately ordered a second, backup reed.

  • You DON'T HAVE TO WET THEM.
Size: Strength 3.00
I can't even begin to describe how much I love these. I had tried synthetic reeds back in my High school days, but they were awful to use and sounded even worse. Hesitatingly, I decided to give these a shot on a friends recommendation. They're STELLAR. 1. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WET THESE REEDS. If for nothing else, this is why they are the best. Wetting reeds before playing can be annoying when switching instruments during a gig, because if you spend too long on one instrument, the other's reed gets dry. NOPE. Not these. just pick up and play, and it plays as evenly and crisply as freshly saliva'd cane. 2. They play just like cane. After playing for 30 years, I cannot tell the difference, except that I prefer the legere signature series. The attack is crisp EVERY TIME.The strength is even, and the response is perfect. It does slightly change the sound of the instrument - cane reeds are a bit more creamy dark where these add a little brightness, but I like it better, so your mileage may vary. 3. It is easy to clean. you clean it, it's clean. Clean your mouthpieces, clean these reeds, it takes two seconds with light soap and warm water and they're like new again, except they were always like new, because they play exactly the same whenever you pick them up. These never even get that gross, but you should clean them anyway. 4. They're not even that expensive. I picked up one for each of my saxes for about the price of a box of reeds. And where in a box I would be shaving, trimming, or throwing out the defects and finding maybe four to six good ones, with one or two being stellar, these are just stellar. Always. I can't recommend these enough. Legere Signatures are what I play all the time now. ... show more

  • For the price, money well spent | Plays right out of the box!
Size: Strength 2.50
I have played synthetic reeds exclusively for the last two decades. Every year I'll buy a box of cane reeds, and every year I scream about the fact that 1 in 5 will be playable, even after doing my "reed rituals." I decided to try the Legere Signature on the advice of a fellow sax player whom I esteem. I play a 3.5 Fibercell reed on my vintage 80s Yani tenor mouthpiece, facing is 9. Pretty open, which typically should be played with softer reeds. I tried a 3.5 Legere and it was unplayable. So, sent it back and dropped it down to 2.25. SUCCESS! Just tried it on two different pieces...my Yani 9 and my Ernst Schreiber Heavenly Jazz 8*. Francois Ligature on both...the reed is exceptionally smooth across all dynamics, and altissimo was playable, but took a little adjustment on my part. After a little time spent with upper register and transitioning to altissimo, it was a piece of cake. Synthetic reeds aren't for every sax player, but for me, they're perfect for Jazz, Big Band, and Rock. I don't play a lot of legit music on my tenor, but the Legere Signature reed (2.25) I have on my alto is terrific with concert music and classical, using my ESM and SR Tech pieces. I highly recommend this reed for any player looking for an alternative to the rampant imperfections of modern cane reeds. NOTE: I'd suggest playing a few sizes (.25 increments) down from your current reed, since these run a little harder in my experience. ... show more

great range and tone

  • For me, absolute game changer
Size: Strength 2.25
I will preface this by saying i’ve already had several upgrades to my setup throughout my now 9 years of playing saxophone. I’ve tried many mouthpieces, ligature setups and reed brands and had settled and a wood reed that made consistently good jazz reeds for my setup, specifically vandoren zz for those who care. also for those who care my mouthpiece is a rousseau jdx6 with a 70$ metal vandoren ligature, don’t remember the exact kind. I am a college student who tried to get my wood reeds to last long and would always get complaints from my teacher that my reeds are dead. the inconsistency and degradation of wooden reeds was affecting my embouchure and limiting my growth in tone production. Long and frequent practice sessions would make my wood reeds different/worse every day. I had always dismissed plastic reeds as being unprofessional until my teacher (an incredibly talented musician who has played with many famous musicians) told me he uses plastic reeds for every saxophone except bari. He noticed the issues I was having with wooden reeds and let me try his 2.25 strength legere signature. I was floored when the tone I was getting from the reed was actual better all around and more consistent across the range of my horn (including altissimo) than almost every wooden reed i’ve ever played on. not only that but it is the same price as a box of vandoren zz which would only last me a couple months or so if that while the plastic reed does not suffer from such degradation in quality over time. The fact that the reed plays the same has allowed my tone production to become incredibly consistent and significantly improved because I don’t have to constantly readjust to different reed qualities. I would absolutely recommend this reed to anyone that has doubts about wooden reeds or can’t put up with the hassle. I won’t have to buy another reed for a long time if ever and my sound has never been better. ... show more
