  • Exceptional Smoothness and Convenience
Size: Strength 2.75
My daughter plays Alto Saxophone in her High School Marching band. I recently purchased the Légère Reeds Premium Synthetic Woodwind Reed for her, which turned out to be an excellent decision, and we are thoroughly impressed with the product. One of the standout features of the Légère reed is its exceptional smoothness during play. My daughter immediately noticed the ease with which she could produce clear and vibrant tones on her Saxophone. A major advantage that sets Légère reeds apart is the convenience they offer. Unlike traditional cane reeds, there's no need to pre-soak the Légère reed to achieve the perfect pitch. It's ready to play right out of the box, eliminating the time-consuming process of soaking and adjusting. This feature has been particularly appreciated by my daughter, as it allows for a hassle-free and immediate playing experience. The durability of the synthetic material is another noteworthy aspect. Traditional cane reeds are often fragile and susceptible to changes in humidity, but the Légère reed holds up well over time. This not only contributes to a longer lifespan but also ensures consistent performance, making it a cost-effective choice in the long run. My daughter is delighted with her playing experience, and we highly recommend it to fellow saxophonists. ... show more

  • Great Synthetic Reed
Size: Strength 2.00
I'm an adult beginner that's been playing for four months. I've come to the conclusion that reeds, mouthpieces, and ligatures are all subjective to the horn and the player. Some combinations work and some don't as well. I have used cane reeds and Plasticover reeds before feeling comfortable enough to try this Legere synthetic reed. I like it a lot. It's playable and I find that playing lower notes is easier for me. Currently I am playing it on a Meyer 5M mouthpiece with the stock metal ligature. It is more durable than cane with the caveat that you still have to use care when installing the reed. Another thing that I think is cool about Legere is that there are different size increments available. Some models have increments of .25. They used to have an exchange by mail option. I don't know if they still do but who does that? That's unique. They also have a few comparison strength charts online for various brands so you can get an idea about what could be similar to what you are using. I like this brand enough that I ordered two similar strength American Cut reeds. These reeds also come with their own individual reed case. It's not a flimsy or cheap case either. That's a nice touch! The only complaint I have, if you could even call it that, is that the case has no markings or label on the exterior telling what size the reed inside is. Of course anybody looking at these reeds is going to notice the price. These aren't cheap! Like anything else that is expensive I cruise the net looking for sales. Even at full price, if these synthetic reeds last three or four months or longer, they will be worth the cost associated with them. I'm seriously considering using up the cane reeds and just buying Legere reeds after that. ... show more

  • Synthetic Reeds Are Complicated to Evaluate
Size: Strength 2.50
Everyone has different preferences for reeds, and the mouthpiece you use (tip opening/facing curve) is critical for reed selection and performance. So in the context of what I am playing (alto, Yamaha 5C mouthpiece, 2.5 strength reed), here are my thoughts. 1. The positive here is that this reed is good for practice because it is consistent and responsive. I can get started with practice without any reed issues. 2. The reed does not change during the course of practice. Unlike cane reeds, which get more water saturated over time. Even so, I follow the manufacturer's instructions and use this reed for about 1 hour before switching reeds. 3. Is this reed more responsive than other synthetic reeds? No, I have found others that are more responsive. 4. Is the tone using this reed better than cane?. No, I think a good cane reed (when you have one) has better tone. 5. Is the reed a good value? If it lasts as advertised, yes. But I have only been playing it for a month or so (every day). 6. Does the reed change at all? Yes, I think after a month of playing it is playing "softer". 7. Anything bad? Well, it is very smooth on the table side, so it tends to move easier on a plastic mouthpiece. Sometimes shifting a bit. Maybe it would not do so on a rubber mouthpiece. 8. Buy again? Well, I am trying out other synthetic reeds. I think they are useful for practice, and I will likely end up choosing one brand/type for this purpose. This one seems good overall. Not sure yet it it will be my top choice. Your results may vary. ... show more

  • Amazing, spectacular, beautiful sound
Size: Strength 3.25
I’ve been playing for close to 9 years and I can say that this is my favorite reed. You don’t have to worry about keeping it wet, it lasts a lot longer than a wooden reed, and the sound is impeccable.

  • PLEASE SWITCH TO SYNTHETIC!!!!!!!!
Size: Strength 2.50
PLEASE SWITCH TO THIS REED, MY TONE AND INTONATION INSTANTLY IMPROVED. Aside from the crazy start of this review, this reed is actually insane. I got a 2.5 hardness because I used to play Rico 2’s, but they were garbage, then switched to Vandoren 3’s because my director required them, then tried this reed and INSTANTLY LOVED IT! I’m not joking. This reed is probably softer than my Rico 2 in my opinion. Very worth price. The reed case itself is pretty decent, although bulky. Doesn’t defeat the fact that THIS REED IS A GAME CHANGER THOUGH. When I switched to this reed, my practices became more fun, and in my opinion, that’s more important than ANYTHING. Durability is good, obviously compared to a cane reed. Seals to mouthpiece really well. First taste of Legere, love it! ... show more
