This innocuous phrase may be the most important part of the entire description of this product. I may be out of touch with the modern world, but I have never bought a desk lamp that did not plug into a normal wall socket till I acquired this desk light. Yes, it is true -- the normal two stick AC plug associated with every other light I have ever bought is missing form this item. Instead, to power it, you need to plug it into a powered USB port -- typically found on either a computer or as a cell phone re-charger. This eliminates the cost for the manufacturer to include the typical 5 volt transformer to power the light. Cost effective for the producer, but maybe not what you might expect. Now, I will say that the lamp also has an output USB port, so you could use a phone charger plugged into the wall to power the light and then use the lamp's USB output port to re-charge your phone, so the design may not be a terrible choice, but it is not at all typical. That being said, the other features of the light are as stated. The light is dim-able and has multiple settings for the light 'temperature'. It also has a timer that will turn the light off after 45 minute period. Ir swivels and has two light 'bulbs' that allow movement to position the light as desired. But the length of the arm that holds the light above the base is shorter than many of the pother lamps I own and may not allow you to place the light above a monitor or other tall accouterments on your desk. Given the lack of a transformer and limited height of the light and the price, this may not be the best option for you, but if it is, it seems serviceable. ... show more

This is one of my best purchases!! It consists of 5 different light modes with a reading mode. Further, for every mode the brightness can be easily adjusted. It also have a 45 mins timer which is helpful during night time reading. I am glad that it also have the additional pen holder and charging feature. It can be even turned at any angle. This lamp has great light features, ranging from dim to light and yellow to white light. It works well for reading to my daughter,or giving her extra light for her piano playing. It’s slim and compact so doesn’t take up a lot of room and it’s easy to adjust the light direction. Just what we needed!
