I have used it for close to two weeks and haven’t seen any charring or melted plastic anywhere on the product. 2 weeks of daily charging and still going strong. I have high hopes on this one. Edit- Unitnis still going strong. I have finally gotten a baseline for the charging, and while lower than other ones I have used, it does 9 1/2 miles per hour of charge. bought it for my ev, and got a cord splitter so i can keep both dryer and charger plugged in (only use when the dryer is not in use) it works like a dream i drive 50mile round trip to work and only need to charge every 3 days with it.

This is the second Lectron charging device I've purchased and it's also made very nicely, working as described. I had planned to install a wall-mounted charging station at my mother's house (she recently bought a first-generation Chevrolet Volt), then realized that a solution like this was enough for her. It will effectively stay plugged in to the 240v line we installed in her garage, and the cable is light enough for her to manage. The Volt is a lower-amperage charging vehicle and doesn't need 30-amp or higher service, making this perfect. The only drawback I see is that it does not include an app to show current charging status, as some of the nicer units have. But at under $200, who cares? My mother did the happy dance at speeding up her charging time (compared to 120v charging), and my wallet isn't screaming. ... show more

I’ve used this for a week and has been working well. I will note that I’ve experienced the same issue as other reviewers have mentioned about how the charger is hard to pull out from the car. I have noticed you need to use a bit more force to connect or disengage the charger from your car than you would with the stock chargers or chargers you find in public charging stations. Before buying this, I read the reviews, and like you probably do, I read all of the negative reviews first. My logic is that I expect it to work, and to work properly. What I am looking for is why it didn't work for some people. It seems the most common reason for negative comments was that it was too tight in the charging port. Since I am pretty certain I can fix that issue, if it is in fact an issue, I went ahead and bought it. After I received it, I tried it out and with pleasing results. First, it fits snugly in the charging port, but is not overly tight, so for me that was a non-issue. Having a level 2 charger cut my charging time by just over half (from 5 hours to just over 2 hours), so I am pleased with that. All in all, a solid unit which works very well for me. ... show more
