  • My kids really like this easy to use coding toy
The Coding Creature is coding toy similar to the Botley, but smaller, simpler, and a lot cuter. All the controls are on the cat-like creature itself. There is no remote control device. When first turned on, the creature starts in “coding mode”, where you can tap the direction buttons on its back to program a sequence of movements and then watch it go. The creature also has a “play” mode, where each button immediately triggers a pre-programmed response. Responses include a musical “dance” routine and a happy coos as if responding to being fed or petted. In addition to the creature itself, the box includes a simple arch structure and decorative set pieces that children can use to create an obstacle course for the creature to navigate using their programs. There are also cards that can be used to lay out a program visually before tapping it into the control buttons. Overall, the creature is an interesting variant of the Botley. It’s wheels are very small, which limits its ability to move across carpet. Its simplicity and cuteness makes it more approachable for small children, and lacking a remote is not really a negative. Remotes consume a lot of battery power, and small children would rather chase the creature around the room than watch it from a distance. ... show more

  • Great STEM toy
Absolutely love the learning aspect of this toy, keeps kids engaged and learning while staying screen free!! The play mode is also super cute and my daughter really enjoys using that to see what the cat can do. The coding part obviously takes learning and getting used to but once you figure it out then it’s easy to use. ... show more

  • Fun Toy
I got this for my 5-year-old and so far he has enjoyed it. The set is bigger than I expected and my son was very excited about the magnetic pieces to make the cats play with their toys. We didn't have any batteries initially but he said it was a lot of fun even without those. I like that it has both a coding and play mode. The coding can get frustrating as you are learning how far one press goes or how far it turns and sometimes the alignment can get off so it doesn't go quite where you want it. For this reason, my son seems to prefer the play mode or just to use the coding to be silly and not to do the challenges in the book. Overall, he seems to enjoy it and will play with it for about 30 minutes at a time. ... show more

  • Hoped my daughter would love it, but she doesn’t
I thought this toy was so cute and wanted my daughter to love it, however she’s hardly played with it at all. I’m not sure if it’s because she’s too old for it (she’s 6) or if it’s just a boring toy. It seems to follow the commands fine, but there’s not a whole lot for it to do.

  • Interesting and educative.
Purchased it as a gift for a friend's preschooler daughter. Their daughter loved it and enjoyed playing with it. It's a good learning game and intresting for introduction to coding in early life stages.
