Finally, a Chinese manufacturer who gets it. From slick marketing, to excellent design, to great packaging, this company has done such a good job that it has been compared to Apple or Tesla. Everything about the guitar and accessories says quality and simple but advanced design lines are space age sexy. Inside, the guitar is a tech marvel: a "smart" guitar with a touch screen and more features than I could cover in a several page review. All those things that I just mentioned however, are NOT the reasons that you should buy a Lava Me 3. It is a great sounding guitar with deep bass resonance, and sustain that is hard to find in all but the best wood guitars. The engineers who designed this carbon fiber composite guitar obviously spent a lot of time tweaking the sound. Does it sound like a wood guitar: not really, but that is not a bad thing. Just like a Martin D-28 has a distinctive sound that differs from a typical Taylor offering. It does not sound "tinny" like some carbon guitars in the past, and because it is precision molded, the sound is consistent from guitar to guitar.....something that you can't say about wood. The carbon neck does not have or need a truss rod, and every guitar has been fretted by a Plek Pro machine to insure great playability. However, I did find the action a bit high for my playing style so I adjusted the saddle height and installed a zero fret nut. ( I do not recommend making such adjustments unless you know what you are doing. I venture to say that many players will find it plays well for them right out of the box). The breadth of sounds that can be created, the rugged carbon build quality, and the versatility of this guitar made it a keeper for me. UPDATE: I installed D'Addario locking tuners with auto trim for a no tool fast string change. (Changing strings really is no longer a chore.) However, the main reasons for this change was the additional pitch stability and noticeably smoother tuning. Nothing really that bad about stock tuners, but the D'Addario tuners are just higher quality. Coupled with the carbon neck, tuning up is now seldom needed. ... show more

    • Great travel guitar and guitar in general,
It does not sound as good as my Larrivee or Martin, but very good for a carbon fiber guitar. Plays real well up and down the neck, sustains forever. It has to be super durable, even in dry winters. Volume is fine with or without the "effects". Nice and light and couch-friendly. There is a small speaker inside the guitar that plays the effects, and it does work. The effects themselves are pretty cheesy, but the reverb, which is the one you want anyway, is OK. Tuner basically works, well enough. I have not tried all of them. Metronome is handy, too. I have not tried the recorder or the looper. I did have to file down the bottom of the saddle to lower the action (no truss rod in a carbon fiber quitar.) I also replaced the nut with one with a more normal string-spacing as the one supplied puts the string too close together for me. I bought the charging stand, which looks cool in my room, and the strap, which is not recommended as it is expensive for what you get and has to be removed when you mount the guitar in the stand. The media could not be loaded. I received my lava me 3 38” smart guitar just yesterday. I was excited to open the packaging and begin playing ASAP. The packaging was phenomenal. It really felt like an Apple product. Beautifully displayed. The touch screen OS even had a similar look and feel as an Apple product. My joy quickly turned to dismay. After powering on the guitar, I was prompted to activate the device and link it to my Lava+ app. I anticipated some OS updates since I knew I was buying the previous iteration of this guitar. However, instantly after scanning the QR code displayed on the screen to “activate “ my guitar, the screen went blank. It was completely unresponsive. I tried force restarting, disconnecting and reconnecting the provided USB-C cable. I let the guitar charge over night. All to no avail. This guitar bricked itself on the same day it was delivered. I reached out to customer service who replied the next day with “I’ll deal with it later”. What an abysmal way to reply to a patron who has just spent hundreds of dollars on your product. I did however get a reply from a “Louis Luk” on a facebook group dedicated to these products. I am not sure it is the real Founder and CEO of Lava or if it’s just a catfish. They assured me they would look into the issue. I decided to wait for their solution and picked up the guitar to test it out without the onboard sound and OS. Only to realize my action was incredibly high. This model does not come with a truss rod. Upon further investigation, I’ve discovered that the neck is horrendously bowed. This has been such a disappointment. I was incredibly excited for this product and have been left in utter disbelief. Please, do not purchase this product until they have a serious overhaul of their QA and CS teams. ... show more
