  • It satisfies my need, but I absolutely wouldn't recommend it for students
Color: Black
First, let me explain why this works all right for me, then I'll explain exactly why this isn't a good piano to buy for your child to learn with. I wanted a piano that I could dabble on a bit, as someone who took lessons years ago, forgot much of what I learned, and doesn't have the time to dedicate to serious study. In short, I wanted a hobby piano that I could play badly purely for my own pleasure. I can't afford a good piano at this time and don't really have the space for one anyway. So, I needed the best I could afford within my limited budget and fitting in limited space. A keyboard wasn't ideal because I would then need a place to set it. I researched, and this model is about the best you can do in this price range for a small instrument with 88 keys, reasonable sound, a frame, pedals with a pedal board, and weighting to the keys (it isn't exact weighting matching that of a "real" piano, but it works well enough for me). For what I wanted and what I am able to afford/accommodate, this piano is decent and I am happy enough with it. Setting it up wasn't too hard (I only swore a little and didn't cry at any point) and the frame isn't wobbly. It sits lower than I am accustomed to, so the stool I had purchased to use with it was too high, but luckily I had another stool that works. I play at an intermediate level skill-wise, so I needed some key-weighting and pedals, which this provides. For the styles of songs that I like to play, this piano allows me to do most of what I want to do. I highly doubt I'll progress much in my musical prowess, so I don't actually need the higher quality keys or sound. The sound on the grand piano setting isn't exact, but is pretty good considering the price of the instrument. I really don't care at all about having the huge assortment of other instrument sounds, since all I wanted was a piano. If you are looking to buy a first piano for your children to learn to play on, however, this is NOT the piano to buy. You're going to end up having to buy a better instrument after a year or two of lessons, and this instrument may actually hinder their progress. Here's why: First, the keys are not able to play staccato notes -- a quick sharp pressure on the keys instead gives a sound that lingers slightly. Being able to play staccato notes is a pretty basic, key thing to be able to do for a music student (many elementary level songs use staccato notes). I can particularly imagine serious frustration/tears for any child on the spectrum trying to learn on this instrument (since no matter how correctly they attempt a staccato, the sound will not be correct). Secondly, since the key weighting does not have the same hammer action of a "normal" piano, a child learning on this instrument will not be able to develop the correct muscle/ability in his/her fingers and would not know the correct way to press keys when playing on a properly weighted keyboard. Now if you just want your child passably literate in music and able to bang out a simplified version of Fur Elise for the grandparents, this would not be an issue. But if you want your child able to develop as a musician to the point of playing for several years, playing in church, or even going further with music, this limitation would really matter. Finally, although the sound is sufficient for my modest wants, it's really not accurate enough or quality enough for a developing student of music. It's very important to train the ear, so that a child develops the ability to easily catch and correct "sour" notes, anticipate the correct way to play certain pieces, learn pieces quicker/easier, and eventually, play with nuance/personality/emotion (the most enjoyable and beautiful way to play). Because the sound is ever so slightly off, your child may not develop the right ear for sound, which could prove a hindrance to his/her development as a musician. ... show more

great piano, one of my best purchases. However, a couple months ago I lost the power cord from moving and I can't find one to replace it and now can't play it anymore.

  • Better than expected
Color: Black
The product was easy and quick to assemble. All parts and hardware were present, and straightforward to put together (albeit there is no "instruction", just a diagram, but its relatively simple. The sound is fantastic, it has multiple different instruments, which I did not expect, however the "grand piano" sound (000) is phenomenal and sounds like a real piano. The keys feel nice, plastic but have the appearance of ivory. They are weighted well, and the accelerometer in them plays notes wonderfully, as if pressed truly soft or hard on the hammer. The pedals on the instrument function well on mine, as if they were real. I saw another review ask if they were working.... you have to plug the midi controller into the body of the piano underneath! After i had done this, the pedals functioned as intended. The appearance of the body is very prestigious, the cover over the piano seems to be well made, and the felt along the keys is a nice touch. Overall, this is a very nice instrument for beginner / intermediate players. I look forward to practicing with this instrument. ... show more

  • Sturdy and beautiful!
Color: Black
The very first step of assembly is a little challenging because of how you have to balance things if you don't wanna just drive things in horizontally. And by "little" I mean very little. Otherwise, it's super easy to assemble with basically five parts to connect. The instructions are easy to read, and the pedals DO work if they're plugged in (you can't miss it--there's a giant plug off the side of the pedal box and the pictures make it very clear where to plug it into). The sound is crisp and has that slight bit of echo you get in traditional pianos that's usually an ugly reverberation in these digital keyboards, so that's an A+ on mitigating the ugliness while replicating the echo. It has a bunch of instruments, but a few of them are pitch variants of previous settings (not too many of them, though, at least), and let's face it, you're gonna stick with a few if you're not doing very serious projects (and I'm not engaged in the field of digital music to decide if this is a piano useful for "serious projects" but I suspect not). This is a casual digital piano for people who want MORE than a garbage synthetic keyboard but don't want an instrument that weighs more than the whole family combined. ... show more

  • Easy to assemble, great sound, compact instrument
Color: White
The media could not be loaded. (Video included for sound check) I was a little nervous about purchasing this. I have been playing piano for over 15 years and have wanted to purchase one of my own for a while now. My house is small, so an upright/grand would simply not work. This piano is awesome. It is a full-size keyboard that fits into our small space and works great (especially for the price). It took me 20 minutes to assemble it (they even included a screw driver in the package, although I found a drill was a bit easier). The only tricky part was finding the correct input for the pedal cord (its underneath the keyboard, not on the back of it- if you plug it into the wrong input, the pedals won't work). The sound is great (especially on setting 000). I would recommend this to anyone looking to purchase a piano in a small space and on a budget. Also, it shipped much faster than what was estimated. It only took 4 business days to arrive when shipping was estimated at 2-3 weeks. ... show more
