I did a lot of research on this drive and read a lot of reviews so I had my doubts. But I got it on time, the product is what I ordered and the set up/use is flawless. I even checked if it was a refurbished or not and it wasn’t. In the end it’s user error that most of the time this drive breaks. If your using this as a stay at home drive and don’t really travel much I don’t see this ever breaking (just don’t have it hanging from your desk when using it). If your traveling a lot and your careless with your stuff then I would get a SSD like a T5. That being said it’s worth the money in my opinion and use case! ... show more

This device is ideal for computer system backups. When my 12-year-old MacBook Pro began making abnormal noises, I was able to create a complete back up on the LaCie external hard drive and to restore the backup to a new MacBook. It worked perfectly. There's only one problem: On the Amazon web page, the device advertises a USB 3.0 adapter for legacy systems: "Quickly and easily connect to the latest Windows and Mac computers with Rugged’s reversible USB-C cable, or legacy computers using the included USB 3.0 adapter." Unfortunately, it appears that LaCie no long provides the USB 3.0 adapter, which I needed for the original backup. Fortunately, a customer service agent at Amazon was able to locate an appropriate adapter for me. Even so, it would be better for the web page to be updated if indeed LaCie has deleted the USB 3.0 adapter from the product. However, I was gratified that the LaCie unit served so well in preserving my data and restoring it to the new computer. I have replaced 2 external hard drives and 2 internal hard drives (for laptop) in about 6 years. Frustrating to say the least. This LaCie was recommended by a pro photographer friend of mine who swears by them. So far so good, but again it is only a week old. Right out of the box it was very simple to use - pretty much plug it in to your computer with provided USB and you're ready to go. Up/download speed seems good too. Give it a try. I just purchased this about 1 month ago when my macbook air started exploding with issues due to lack of storage. I have been making a lot of videos for online teaching that take up a lot of space. I needed something ASAP to make my computer run its editing software and Zoom effectively. This hard drive saved me! So far it is great! The only weird thing is that the connection cable is really hard to pull out of the USBC port.
