Description

La Tourangelle Toasted Sesame oil is pure, all-natural and handcrafted from high-quality sesame seeds harvested from South America or Africa. The seeds are toasted and then expeller (machine) pressed to extract the oil. This oil is filtered several times and then bottled. Our mill slowly roasts the sesame seeds using lower temperatures. The result is a deep amber, richly flavored oil with a subtle toasted taste. Sesame Oil has long been the universal cooking medium in Asia, imparting the characteristic flavor to the foods of its regions. In Chinese and Korean cuisine, it is added as a flavor highlight to cooked dishes. The Japanese often add about 10% toasted Sesame Oil to the oil used for tempura or deep-frying, creating a rich, background flavor. American cooks may want to use Sesame Oil to flavor an Asian stir-fry or noodle dish or as a marinade for meat or fish. Sesame Oil, rice vinegar, fresh grated ginger, and mustard is a delicious dressing for any combination of salad greens. Sesame Oil, is an ancient ingredient. The Assyrians used it as a cooking oil more than 600 years before Christ. It was expensive, however, and a hundred years later in Persia only the rich could afford it. It is still used as a medicine in India , and oil pressed from the raw seed is a massage oil in Ayurvedic medicine. Its low saturated fatty acid content and high unsaturated fatty acid content makes it a very healthy oil. La Tourangelle is one of few remaining oil mills keeping a time-honored French heritage of roasting and pressing nut kernels into delicious oils. We are a family-owned company whose mastery of oil production is the fruit of passion, integrity, and pride. We strive to be the best artisan oil producer, dedicated to making carefully crafted, sustainable, natural products. With artisan care, we extract the seeds' essence and hidden natural treasures to create amazing products that bring delight in the kitchen and well being for the body.

  • Great tasting oil. And THEY FIXED THE CRUMYY LEAKY SPOUT
Size: 16.9 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I just opened my 3rd can of this product and it appears that, at least for the 16.9 oz can, they've fixed the drippy spout problem (as I wrote below in 2018 and am leaving intact). Apparently they've made the pour spout longer, resulting in a stream that overshoots the metal lip on the can below the spout. Problem solved! Now all the oil we pour goes where we intend it, and none dribbles down onto the top of the can. Bravo! and Five Stars :) I wrote this in October 2018: This oil is fine. It's packaging is awful. The spout leaks. Specifically: one doesn't binge pour a strong tasting oil, one slowly, carefully pours out a small amount. The cap on this metal-can-as-bottle has a lip which gets enclosed by the top half of the cap when it's closed. So far so good. But the can top has a lip too. Guess what, as you tilt the can enough for the oil to emerge from the spout onto your spoon, bowl, or food, the oil that's spilt into the lid's lip cascades over the top of it and rolls down, catching in the can top lip, where it then begins rolling around the outer edge of the can top. Where it'll get gunky, or be ready to spill onto a refrigerator shelf the day you knock the can over, or both. Protecting against this eventuality requires that one mop up the oil on the can top with a tissue or paper towel—each and every use. I've poured the oil into a competitor's newly-emptied glass bottle. C'mon, La Tourangelle…a leaky pouring spout is just nonsense. ... show more

  • Delicious oil
Size: 16.9 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I unofficially collect La Tourangelle oils, and sesame is delicious. It is very fragrant and a little goes a long way. Korean dishes often contain sesame oil and this is much more economical than the small glass bottles that I see in the grocery store in the Asian foods section. My favorite recipe using this oil is Cheater Korean Beef, instead of the special cut ribs, you use ground beef. Simply brown and crumble a pound of lean ground beef, toss with a tablespoon or two of sesame oil, and minced garlic. Serve over rice, and top with scallions and sesame seeds. Delicious and unique. ... show more

  • Super goood tasting and long expiration date.
Size: 16.9 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This is super good tasting! It tastes just like toasted sesame seeds! I bought a wok and I'm learning to make Chinese food. I made my first dish, a vegetable stir fry, with a little of this oil and it was really terrific. The bottoms of the cream cheese won ton were lightly fried in the wok with a little oil too, then finished in the oven. I want to make my own dishes to avoid the excessive oil they use in restaurants. I'm going to use this again tomorrow for a vegetable fried rice. Sesame is a heavy oil so it's not suitable for cakes or sweet dishes, but for savory things-yum! My bottle has an expiration date almost a year and a half from the day it was delivered. I'm sure I will be using it all before that. I'm keeping it in the refrigerator. ... show more

  • Great tasting non-GMO, 100% pure sesame oil at a good price.
Size: 25.4 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This is a great product at a good price. It is one of the best tasting sesame seed oils I have ever cooked with and is very flavorful. I have tried similar products only to find that the flavor was very mild and didn't add much to the food that I was preparing. I keep buying this brand because I find the quality has been consistently good. If you're hesitant about buying a can of oil via mail order don't be, the product I received was very carefully wrapped and boxed so it arrived in pristine condition and was very fresh with a "use by" date of May 2019. It is 100% pure, non-GMO sesame oil and the can it comes in is BPA Free. ... show more

  • Great for Chinese and Other Asian Dishes
Size: 16.9 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Don't be afraid of the French name! This is a superb sesame oil and I think it will be my go-to from now on. Intense, deep toasted sesame flavor and scent. I cook a fair bit of Chinese food, and also like to add a bit of toasted sesame flavor to a bowl of instant ramen, and it's great for both! I also like that it comes in a light-protective tin (yep, tin, according to their site) bottle. This helps keep it fresh and full-flavored. The pour spout is nice, too. Little to no dripping. But the main draw is the flavor. This is one of the best sesame oils I've used, and THE best at this price for this quantity. Bear in mind when using, a little goes a long way! ... show more

  • Very disappointed
Size: 16.9 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
There is a bad smell when I open the lid and sniff, which carries over into the taste of the oil. It appears that the inside of the can may have a coating of some sort. If you are sensitive to chemicals, you may want to consider a different product. The oil may be of good quality but I can't tell due to what it is packaged in; all I detect is chemical. ... show more

  • Not much toasted flavor
Size: 8.45 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
So bummed out. I use toasted sesame oil for that authentic flavor in my Chinese and Korean meals. As I was finishing out the last tablespoon of my inexpensive bottle from a Korean market in Nashville, I opened this new bottle of La Tourangelle, whose attractive can says it has a “bold” flavor. Not even close. Tasting the two brands side by side, the Korean brand (as did my former, other Korean brand) had that wonderful bold, toasted sesame flavor. The La Tourangelke was very mild and I’d say about 1/4 of the toasted flavor. It is mild enough that I could bake with it and no one would know it was toasted oil. For the price, this was at least double the stuff I bought at the Asian market and it has less than half the flavor. Bummer. ... show more

  • Best value for the price
Size: 16.9 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This toasted sesame oil has a deep rich flavor that makes it excellent on noodles and with vegetables. I am especially impressed with the price. Toasted sesame oil is usually allot more expensive in the states, making it forbiddingly expensive to use in the traditional manner. The low price and deep flavor of this toasted sesame oil allows me to soak all of my noodles and vegetables in toasted sesame oil without going broke. BTW: I would not recommend using toasted sesame oil for ordinary cooking. Regular, non-toasted sesame oil is much better, less expensive and less wasteful for cooking. Cooking with toasted sesame oil has a tendency of damaging its flavor. Toasted sesame oil is better to use on food after its been cooked or on salads and raw vegetables. I am very, very happy with this product. ... show more
