  • Good set of strings for Hofner HI-Series B-Bass
Pattern Name: Single Item
Very good feeling & playing set of strings on my Hofner bass. My first set of flat wound strings & they did not disappoint on sound or playability. Decent value for the money, about in line or slightly more than a decent set of name brand strings. They are not Thomastik, but they aren’t $100 a set either. ... show more

  • Perfect fit on a Viola Bass
Pattern Name: Single Item
Perfect fit on my Epiphone Viola. The sound is round, woody and warm with plenty of mid thump. The strings are amongst the smoothest I've played. Tension is just right as well.

  • Huge step up from Hofner Ignition’s factory flatwounds
Pattern Name: Single Item
I recently purchased one of the new (2021) Hofner Ignition PRO Club basses. One of their distinguishing features is that the come stock with flats. Unfortunately the factory flatwounds on this new model left a lot to be desired. The E string was completely dead, and sounded like someone smacking the side of a timpani with a manila folder (no fundamental, lots of weird harmonics). It’s no secret that Hofner flats are usually Pyramids, but in the case of this new budget model, I seem to doubt it. Having never owned a Hofner before, I researched available options and landed on these. Let me tell you, it was a good choice. The feel of the strings is supple and remind me of the TI’s I have on my precision. The tone is balanced from string to string. They are way easier to intonate than the factory set. Tension on the light set is just about perfect. And most importantly, they sound thick but defined. With the bass solo switch engaged, they thump hard. With the treble solo switch engaged, they can cop a great tic-tac sound. They are incredibly versatile and complement each of the Hofner’s modes very well. ... show more

  • Fixed ALL my Hofner Beatle Bass issues!
Pattern Name: Single Item
At first, I was a little skeptical that these strings would fix some of the issues with my (original) 60's Beatle Bass. I had been running medium scale, flat-wounds for a while on it, but they didn't really fit right. They didn't have the proper taper beyond the nut, so there was a big lump of string around the tuning pegs. This made tuning way too course. My Hofner also had issues with low volume from the D string, and some intonation issues...both of which I never seemed to be able to get rid of. I installed these La Bella strings today. WOW, what an improvement! I could put the D string pick-up pole back down even with the rest, and the string volume is completely consistent now. It was easy to move a couple of the bridge saddles to get the intonation just right all the way up the neck. Couldn't get there before. The tuning is now MUCH more precise, because these strings have the proper taper up beyond the nut, so the tuning is dramatically improved. I never expected a set of strings would make so much of a difference...but these do. Nice, smooth feel to them as well. Very much the "Sir Paul" sound I like as well. Clearly, the folks at La Bella did their homework on these. Now I'll probably buy an extra set, since I'll be playing my Hofner a lot more now. No, this is not a compensated review. I bought my set of strings just like everyone else...never gotten a bass free-bee in my life. ... show more

  • Strings fail to hold tension without breaking due to the very thin core used to enable tapered ends!
Pattern Name: Single Item
I bought these for my club bass with small tuner holes. These were great until I loosened them while making adjustments to the bridge. I began to tighten back to pitch and the A string snapped. 2 hours before a gig and it broke right at the tuner hole. The blue thread did nothing to protect the core wire which is way to thin. Chicago Music Exchange wrote to me after I contacted them through Amazon. They tried to blame how I may have wound them wrong. I can say I was trained and worked repairing on stringed instruments for over 30 years. ... show more
