Features

  • EXCELLENT QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE: La Bella Black Nylon Tape Wound bass strings have an incredibly smooth outer wrap of black nylon to create a warm, deep, vintage tone with long sustain. Ideal for frettless bass, these strings also work well on acoustic bass guitars, and are the string of choice for many fretted electric bass players, too.
  • DEEP TALKIN' BASS STRINGS: Black Nylon Tape wound strings with an extra smooth surface. Warm, deep, vintage tone; long sustain, Standard Tension. All standard bass sets are LONG scale lengths. The 1st (G), 2nd (D), 3rd (A) strings are 38 from ball-end to silk/taper. The 4th (E) string is 36 34 from ball-end to silk/taper. Only the silk portion of the string should wrap around the tuning post. Only the silk should be cut or else the string will unravel.
  • STRING GAUGES: .060, .070, .094, .115
  • MADE IN THE USA: La Bella guitar strings are made in the USA with American wire. Our strings are packaged using MAP Technology (Modified Atmosphere Packaging). This process controls the amount of oxygen and moisture in the packaging, which helps keep your strings fresh.

  • Great fretless sound, smooth and easy on the fingers.
Size: 750N
I had been using flatwound strings on my ‘78 Precision fretless for years but had grown frustrated with what I’ll call their “dull” sound: compared to the round-wounds on my fretted P-bass they had no spark. I heard about tape-wound strings and had read they could bring some brightness without chewing up my fingerboard so decided to try these. And I love them, they are super smooth under the fingers but have a brighter sound than my flats, and wow are they easy to play. And they sound great too, with good pick-ups they can punch right through the mix. They seem very well-made and durable, plus the black strings on my maple fingerboard give things some visual pop. I am converted now, only LaBella tape-wounds going forward. Recommended! ... show more

  • Excellent alternative to flatwounds
Size: 750N
I played bass in high school, and back then I was too poor to afford new strings, so I played the same set of round-wound strings on my bass as when I got it. An adult friend who taught me and who I used to jam with had a set of flats on his bass and I swore that one day I'd get flats. Fast forward 25 years and I finally got another bass. I started searching around for reviews on flatwounds, and saw a video comparing flats, half-rounds (which I use on my Telecaster) and nylon tape wounds. My mind was very quickly made up. Even with youtube video/audio compression, I could hear that the tapewounds had the smooth sound of the flatwounds, but with a little more punch and thickness that I really like. So I ordered these and I have not at all been disappointed. They play so smooth--no string noise at all. On the rare occasion when they rattle against the frets, it's not the zzzziiiiingg of flats or rounds, but almost more like a soft clatter, which I don't hear in my amp/headphones/recording. They have that full, round tone that I like from so many of the classic rock and outlaw country songs I grew up with, but there is a punch to them that I really like. I have a feeling these will be my go-to strings for a long time to come. ... show more

I put these on my '68 P'bass and the sound & feel are dope. Just like Jamerson, early Carol Kay or Aston Barrett. Really unique.

  • Smoooth bass strings!
Size: 60/110
I had some Ernie Ball flats on my fretless and switched to these La Bella nylons. They are suuuuuper smooth. They are almost exactly like the Rotosound Tru Bass nylon strings in feel! So far, I'm happy with the sound and feel! I will say, if you are someone who wants nylon strings with more texture, I'd recommend looking at Fender's nylon bass strings! ... show more

  • La Bella Tape Wound bass strings review
Size: 60/110
These are great. I'm not a bass player but two of my bass players use them. One plays an fretless upright Takamine bass - a pretty rare beast not unlike a small upright double bass, and he uses nothing but these La Bellas. He hasn't changes them in about 5 years and they still sound great. We play mostly swing music and he's a very busy player, no picks of course. They have a lovely mellow sound and long sustain. My other bass player (coincidentally my wife) plays an old original Hofner violin bass (the McCartney model)and the La Bellas sound fantastic. The bass doesn't have much sustain, and the nylon tape-wound strings seem to give it a little more than it would otherwise have. She's had the same set on for 3 or 4 years. A tip for you here though - we bought a short scale Danelectro bass and tried to fit the La Bellas, but in cutting them to fit we found that if you make the cut on the actual string, rather than the purple shrink-wrapping at the ends, all the tape unravels....and good luck winding it up again!. An expensive lesson. I don't know if they make a shorter scale version of these strings...but we are all big fans of them here in Wellington. ... show more
