For the money this thing is hard to beat. Display is well worth it, quality of the casing and stand is better than any of my 3d printers can print. And you can indeed run just about any distro with touch after a few minor tweaks here and there. I'm going to start buying all these displays as well every SBC that I do not currently own and do real honest reviews. Too many little nerds get on here and trash good products because for some reason they are so awesome at developing that they can build them better. No, wait a second hum? Awesome product. I'm using it as a stat screen like a lot of these other review have. One thing I did differently was found a way to have it turn off automatically. I saw this was an issue for others so I figured I would share. So i ended up running the USB power cord directly into my corsair commander pro. Knowing that the commander pro hub is powered by sata. I assumed it should power down on shutdown. Sure enough. It does! It connected right up with no issues. Also just a tip. You can make the windows task bar only visible on your main screen.     • Nice compact HDMI display solution for your Raspberry Pi projects.

This display met my expectations. No dead or stuck pixels, minimal dark backlight edge bleed, great color depth and contrast ratio, and the display mount fit my Raspberry Pi 3B+ perfectly. I was looking for the smallest useable screen size for a project, and this five inch model hit the mark. I watched many a YouTube 480p video stream over it as a quick verification test prior to my final project implementation, and it was smooth and flawless, using standard stock Raspian 800x480 video drivers. I have however not tested out the touch screen capability, as I use a Bluetooth mouse and/or a micro Bluetooth keyboard instead. The viewing angle is very good front on, side to side, and from the top, however contrast does drop off sharply when viewed from below. Current consumption is specified at 340ma, from the links they provided in the included paper documentation. Here are the 75Hz settings that I applied for this display in Raspian /boot/config.txt # display_rotate=0 disable_overscan=1 hdmi_drive=1 hdmi_group=2 hdmi_mode=87 hdmi_cvt 800 480 75 6 0 0 0 # I have to add that despite other reviews, that this is a quality constructed plastic product (no cardboard), and there is absolutely no shock hazard from the 5 volts it runs on. Unless your Raspberry Pi power supply is defective, or another attached device has a problem. Not at all a reflection of this product's quality or design. . ... show more

    • Great but a little hard to assemble

It says in the title that this is for a Rasberry Pi but doesn't really work well for anything outside of that. I can't criticize it too much because it clearly states it in the product's title, but the assembly of this was a chore for me. I had to figure out how to put things together without a Rasberry Pi and there were a lot of pieces that I ended up throwing in the trash. For context, I used this screen with Aida64 to display the internal temps of my newly built PC. As long as you plug the USB and HDMI to your PC you should be good to go but mounting and creating a casing for it is a whole other problem to deal with. I found a cheap display stand to prop it up on my computer desk and covered any exposed parts of the casing and screen (either in the front or back) with electric tape. I ordered this to build a mobile pentest unit with ARM Kali on a pi 3b+. For this build the screen was plug and play-ish. You can have video by just assembling the screen and case, but it takes some tweaking to make it nice. Pros: The display is quite nice, I'm very happy with quality and resolution Once assembled the case is sturdy and does a nice job of housing the screen and pi 3b+ The option to use the screen on other devices is a nice touch Adjusting settings is not difficult if you have Linux/pi experience Cons: Assembly instructions are rubbish! It takes a bit of examination and a touch of trial and error to assemble the case. Configuration files and driver process listed on the quick start guide will break kali 2/2020 ARM image No overlay provided for kalipi-tft-config file (Both Kuman and Kali own responsibility for this problem) The 5" screen draws a good chunk of power. I'll add an upgraded power source, but for a battery powered unit, you may get voltage limiting. Overall, I am very happy with the display and will likely order another. After building the first case, the next one should go much easier. This is a good value for the cost and I would rate it at 4.5 of 5 stars if that was an option. It's a great little screen. I do not use the touch screen, and it was not super easy to assemble since the screws and bolts are super tiny and hard to work with. But that's not too important so don't focus on that. It's powered by micro USB. Since I haven't taken the time to figure out how to disable power to USB ports when my computer is asleep, the display stays on and displays a message about not receiving a source. The screen has a tiny switch on the back that you can use to turn off the display however, or you can unplug it. I opted for using one of those magnetic micro usb connectors and just take the plug off when it was not in use and that was good enough for me. ... show more
