  • Damn Good
Color: Black Style: RP7-G4 Pair Pattern: MONITOR
Model: KRK Rokit 7 G4 Pros: - Quality. Damn these are heavy duty! I have a feeling they'll last a long time. - Audio. Once you have them properly grounded, positioned, and calibrated (I use them in a somewhat sound treated room with SoundID Reference software for calibration to clean up what the sound treatment cannot), audio is crystal clear. Surprisingly good low ends for reference hardware as well. It isn't the most insane, but it beats most others at the same price range. - Software. The phone app was pretty nice. Definitely feels a bit more of a gimmicky selling point when compared to the quality of the actual speakers, but I did get some use out of the alignment tool and it was cool to see how my phone mic received audio with their visual EQ. I would still recommend using professional calibration tools though, the app is still using a smartphone mic to calibrate, that can't be great hah. - Controls. They let you change different EQ ranges right on the device itself. I didn't get much usage out of that after initially playing around with it, but it is a very cool option that I could see myself using if I was in a poorly sound treated environment. Questionable: - Sleep mode? The front logo that lights up when they are powered on seems to dim out when they haven't been active for a while. Not sure if this saves power but if it does, another bonus. Cons: - Logo placement. I'd love to see studio monitors of this quality not outwardly show the brand logo. The characteristics of the speaker design speaks for itself. I think using the brand logo as the power indicator and slapping it in the front was a poor choice, especially when most users will buy a pair of them and they are both on the left side. Just a small detail that may have been overlooked. Overall: Clean, dependable, fairly priced studio monitors. I'd recommend these over most others at this price range. As long as I don't run into any odd issues, I can see myself using these as my daily driver for many years to come. ... show more

  • I can sit in front of these all day
Color: Black Style: RP7-G4 Pattern: MONITOR
From what I understand, there are flat/accurate monitors which can quickly fatigue one's ears, and there are flat/accurate monitors that one can/wants to sit in front of all day/night. What I don't understand is why anyone would ever choose the former. Accurate monitors, pumping out sound as beautiful as what you give them. It really is amazing to be able to hear the subtle changes I make in a mix (amateur/hobbyist,) moving sounds about the stereo field. Auto power off feature works like a charm. In my research, I discovered this feature wasn't always implemented so well, but it's perfect now. And maybe I just have a higher noise floor in my "studio," (lol) but I don't hear any hiss that some folks mention. It's perfectly normal to hear hiss from a reference monitors, as they stay permanently cranked up, but I've not been able to discern one yet. Could also be because I'm pumping sound through them nearly all the time, and when I'm not, I'm walking around deaf from the last session. (Just kidding, mostly, but indeed these monitors get as loud as anybody could likely want them.) I love the clean, solid aesthetic. They feel sturdy, clearly of quality construction, when you pull them out of the box. They're stunners to look at, when you get them positioned. And they are the beautiful truth, when you send a signal to them. I did have an issue with one of my monitors when I first got them, which is just my luck. KRK have insanely low return rate, and when I presented my issue, both KRK, and Front Row were ready to solve the issue immediately. I'm feeling these things so much, I'd put up with them even if I had to return one once a month, but that certainly isn't the case. Monitors doing some work for me, and going strong to this moment. I haven't even touched the knob on the back. Flat is bangin. Plug em in, switch em on, and love. I'm sure i'll eventually tune them, when the app is released. So if you're looking at these, it's hard to come up with a single reason why you'd pass them up. I'm trying to make it easy for you: You've found them, "the ones." Unmatched bang to buck$ ratio. ... show more

  • Amazing value, quieter than RP7
Color: Black Style: RP5-G4 Pattern: MONITOR
I purchased these for my keyboard workstation (Roland FA). I hooked Airplay up to them using an apple router 3.5mm stereo out to the keyboard input, which helped me avoid an external mixer. I first tried the RP7s because I figured bigger was better I and I got them for an excellent price - similar to the RP5's actually. The RP7s are indeed very powerful speakers, and have a huge presence in a small room. The problem was that they seemingly enveloped you in a cloud of hiss/white noise that I found distracting when playing the keyboard at low volumes. Before ordering the RP5s, I called KRK to ask if the 5's were quieter. Two separate people told me they were not, that all of the speakers had basically the same amount of background noise because they are active. But I decided to try the 5's anyways because several reviews claimed that indeed they are quieter. And comparing the RP5 and RP7s, I can say this: 1. RP5's are about 50-75% quieter, and I cannot hear the "hiss"/white noise over the normal background noise in the room. The RP7 background hiss was definitely noticeable and I found it distracting when playing music. 2. The RP5 probably has better soundstage and clarity when sitting closer than 4 ft. I found them clearer at that distance. I am guessing the RP5's are designed for a shorter listening distance than the 7's, even though KRK's literature does not explicitly state this. 3. The RP7s' are noticeably more powerful with huge low end extension and headroom, but they were overkill for my room. I can see why they would be great for mixing in a larger room with dynamic music. In summary, this is an example where the bigger RP7s did not mean better. To be clear, these sound better than my Monitor Audio tower speakers. They are so fun to listen to and I find the price point amazing for the performance that you get. It's a bit puzzling that they don't throw some RCA inputs or BT capabilities (or even Airplay 2) to compete with 500-1k audiophile speakers. ... show more
