Attached vertical bars to metal posts with hose clamps and rubber backing to reduce slippage. The vertical bars are 32" long and just a bit short for my three kayaks. It is a snug fit yet manageable. I was missing several bolts from my package and there was a hole I'm the hardware bag when I open the box. Bolts didn't cost much but it was a waste of an hour going to the hardware store.
