I find the knitters pride yarn winder very easy to use and it makes a pretty cake. The reason for only 4 stars is that it doesn’t wind a whole skein of 5 oz #4 yarn. You have to cut the yarn after the winder plate is full and make a second yarn cake with the remaining yarn. This means your project is going to have more knots in it. ... show more

It is small and compact. Does what it’s supposed to do. The low rating is because I seem to have received a used piece. It has dirt marks on it, scratches and the sticker is peeling. While I don’t mind the peeling sticker, I do mind the marks and scratches, considering I was charged for a new one, which is a good amount of money. For this price, I expect better. I was recommended this winder from a friend who had tried and tested a few different ones. This one is the best as it has no exposed gears for yarn to get caught up in and winds smoothly. I only wish that it could hold an entire skein of Red Heart Super Saver yarn.

I use a granite surface and it does not get too tight and I have to grab it while turning the handle. I know I should probably have a table with wood surface. Anyway, it did it's function.
