I got it for my Dad for Father's Day. He loves baking sourdough regularly, so I thought he might like this gift. He was very excited about it and immediately started using it. Some great things about it are that it's glass, so it's easy to clean, it's a good large size, the little reminder band works great for keeping track of when you last fed the starter, and it comes with both a silicone and cloth top as well as a little adhesive thermometer. Bonus with it comes a little silicone spatula so you can scrape the sides easily. Great product, highly recommend for all you sourdough bakers! ... show more

The container is a nice and heavy glass, I have read reviews on others and they are thin glass. The markings on the side are nice to keep track of the rise and the temperature gauge works well too.

I like this product a lot. I know you could honestly use any jar for your sourdough starter but as a beginner in the sourdough world, I like that this comes with everything you need in one. The tracking band is probably my favorite part. I also like the thermometer, but it is a little difficult to read. They're are sometimes three different "readings. If that's the case, the middle reading is the best. If there's two "readings" the temp is somewhere in between the two. The other reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is that the cover cloth is hard to get on sometimes. I like that it's fitted but I think there could be a little more material down the sides so it doesn't pop off when I'm trying to put it on. I absolutely love this 34 oz starter jar, so much so that I got a spare one. It truly makes sourdough baking so much easier, and I could not be more pleased with it! The included elastic band that marks the date and time last fed is very clever, and super helpful for tracking the vigor of one's starter. The customer service is superlative, too! I misplaced the elastic band and reached out to the company to see fi I could purchase a replacement. They don't actually sell replacements, and instead sent me a complimentary accessories kit, which was so very kind and thoughtful.
