I normally listen to my records on a headphone setup but wanted a simple way to set up my 2nd turntable in the bedroom to listen to records while laying in bed. I had considered edifier, I had looked into a receiver and passive speakers, but for simplicity sake had decided on "The Fives" for the quality, power and expandability. Being ok with getting something not quite "new" for a discount I ordered these. And let me tell you EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT. No scuffs, no dings, absolutely no signs of use. Even the cables and speaker box padding where still sealed and taped with no signs of removal. Set up was easy but I needed to dial the bass down because dang these things THUMP at normal EQ so I flattened the low end a bit. It was during all this I discovered the next surprise, I had read "The Fives" required a firmware update to do the EQ adjust I needed, and that update can sometimes be finnicky if not impossible to do. Uhhhhm.....these came with that firmware already installed, all updated. That made my week!!! The sound these put out is BEAUTIFUL. I went in totally understanding the limitations of a basic stereo bookshelf setup but it has been so much more than I anticipated. It now has me wanting to get the sub to add to it just to knock it up 1 more notch. I'm extremely pleased. I waited 11 days before writing this and have been running these hours every day. I have used the Bluetooth, used all the inputs, and really run them through their paces and in my experience they are a STEAL. For $110 less than new MSRP you can buy these, spend $32 on a 2 year warranty and still be set better than MSRP new. I also had a $200 gift card so my out of pocket was $189 for these and for that I just don't see being able to do any better quality for the price. In conclusion, look like new, beautiful sound, beautiful esthetics, out of box updated, steal of a price. I just have nothing negative to say about my experience. ... show more

    • Not a good start, but damn these speakers are worth it
Starting my review from scratch. Had a slow start due to a broken HDMI cable and faulty remote. The seller just sent me new parts (didn't need the cable as I had a quality spare replacement, but thank you for the gesture). New remote works without the glitches. Then the disappointment with the sound, specifically lack of bass I was told about. But that has been fixed because I updated the firmware (which also gives you a remote on your phone). And now, holy moly! If I cared more about sound, I would pay more for these speakers. Getting them at refurbished price, these are by far the best deal in this class. The clarity, the bass range, the volume, is everything I wanted. I originally had them in my great room downstairs, and I only put the Alexa Echostyem back because they didn't have enough relative volume when using whole house music. Not the speakers fault. So I moved them to my office/man cave and they are now perfect. Works great for my HDMI TV. The only downside is the Edifiers had 2 active channels, where these are fully switched. But that just means when I switch to Alexa music I have to manually use the remote or the knobs on the top. Not a big deal, totally worth it. Overall great speakers, had no problems with the speakers out of the box. Basically looked brand new I couldn’t even tell they were refurbished in any way.

I bought my speakers new. Klipsch’s The Fives are a versatile speaker packed with features and excellent sound that can fill large spaces with its small package. Why 4 stars? They are finicky, and you need to set them up correctly and master the app to get the most out of them. When I took them out and set them up at first, they sounded terrible. First key step: firmware. Klipsch released major firmware updates that drastically change the sound. Updating firmware is not easy, you need a usb 2.0 drive and need to load firmware onto it manually. Google it and follow the steps, this is key. Second step: the app. Out of the box, I thought these had an extreme amount of bass. I love a fat bass thump, however these sounded so muddy and boomy. Use the semi-parametric EQ settings to adjust to your liking. I use -6 bass, +2 mid, 0 treble. This amplifies voices in tv shows and is overall a neutral tuning that still brings plenty of thump imo. After I got these down, I couldn’t be happier. They have eARC to connect to modern tvs, so they just turn on with my tv and I control volume on the tv remote. They have so manh inputs, I can quickly switch to Bluetooth and play music off my phone, and they are also connected to my computer through an optical cable so when I use my tv as a monitor, the sound comes through as well. These inputs all switch with basically no effort, when I start using a new devices the sound automatically switches to the fives. The sound is great as many reviewers have said. Great low end, good imaging and soundstage. They are attractive and small speakers, but they can fill large rooms. They are great for your tv, computer, or just as speakers for any setup. You can often find them on sale or refurbished, so the value is great. It has outputs for a sub too if you have/want one, and the included remote is good. The app also has handy features, my favorite is night mode which cuts the bass. It lets me watch tv at night without disturbing others. My overall advice is you should get these, they are good in truly any situation. Just be sure to set them up. ... show more

    • Surprising Sound!
First off let me say these speakers are amazing, however everyone has different music taste and how they want to listen to it. I recommend downloading the Klipsch app and adjusting settings as you see fit. The bass really thumps on these speakers. Did have to turn down a bit but even before doing so the sound quality was superb. Bluetooth connectivity is easy from mac, pc, mobile devices. I have tried the speakers on the floor, mounted on shelves and finally decided to put them on some stands, where I feel they give the best sound. I recommend! ... show more
