    • Nice, Mess-Free Craft
This Gem Suncatcher Craft Kit is an ideal project for up to 4 kids. An adult may have to demonstrate the process to begin with but most kids I know (ages 4+) will likely catch on pretty quickly. The kit comes with 4 suncatcher designs (plastic sheets with a sketch/outline of how each will look when completed). There are 4 "color guides" to accompany each plastic sheet; someone will need to line up the sketch with the color guide and if possible, tape them together lightly so the design doesn't slip while the craft is being done. There are 7 sheets of "gem stickers" for the kids to share. All they have to do is match the gems to the correct color on their design (the gem sticker will stick to the plastic), thus replicating the design with the gems so that light will shine through. Once complete, remove the color guide, attach one of the 4 strings to each suncatcher and hang on a window from one of the suction cups for sun to shine through. The manufacturer has posted a short video on the Amazon Listing site. It likely would be helpful to show to the kids prior to beginning so they will have a complete vision of the process. I believe this would be a great activity for a birthday party, sleepover or rainy day. It's a bit pricey upfront but considering it will keep kids occupied for awhile with little opportunity to make a mess, it's a good buy. ... show more

I overlooked the dimensions of these and just assumed they'd be smaller, like 3"x3" or 4"x4". But they're 7"x7" so they are on the larger side. That makes it easier placing the gemstones and gives you a bigger object for the sun to hit. My daughter is 6 years old and very artistic. She does a lot of the smaller diamond art designs so this is a cake walk for her. She also loves creating her own designs. So I like the fact you have the freedom to create your own design or use the provided color guide cards. I got these for her to make them all & give them to grandma's for Mother's Day, birthday's, etc. Nothing my family likes more than a homemade item, especially one done by their grandchild. This set comes with everything you need. Everything seems to be great quality and will hold up nicely. For 4 of them the price comes out to an average of $2.50 per suncatcher, which is reasonable in my opinion since everything is included. I think it's a really nice project for 1 kid or multiple kids.     • Great Craft Kit for Young Kids
Got this kit to use during Spring Break last week with my grandson (just turned 6) & great niece (age 6.5). It was perfect for them & they had a blast making suncatchers as presents for their moms, grandparents, & teachers (along with one for each of them as well). The only preparation I had to do for them was carefully taping the color guides to the back of the transparency so the kids could follow the chart without it moving on them. I used a thin roll of heat transfer tape to do this because I found the tape easily came off the transparency without leaving any residue. I suspect painters tape cut into thin strips would work as well. Just be sure not to get tape near any of the gem placement areas. These definitely kept the kids busy for an entire afternoon & there are still some left for them to do another day. Well worth the expense & prep time!! ... show more

    • Suuper sparkly, I love that there's a color guide
This set came with so many different sparkly stick on gems. I was expecting the design bases to be hard plastic (kind of like the paint-on suncatchers I grew up with) but they are thinner flexible plastic. It's a good quality, possible to flex with your hands, but not flimsy. Just not rigid like I was expecting. The size and variety of crystals produce a nice texture and leave lots of room for customizing. The kids will love either using the color guide or making their own designs. It's nice to have options. The included suction cups are small (not to scale in the box images) but should be plenty to hold the weight of the designs, given how light the base plastic is. ... show more

    • For older kids
These sun-catchers provided a fun afternoon craft-time for my daughter and her neighbors. Collectively, their ages range from 3-7. The three year old lost interest quickly and tried to eat some of the smaller gems so I would say the age range should definitely be adjusted to maybe 5+. Another difficulty we ran into was keeping the color guide attached to the actual worksheet the gemstones adhere to. I solved that by getting clothespins and chip clips to attach them so the color guides would stop slipping around. This wouldn’t be so much of an issue, but the kids are on the younger side, and it was pretty frustrating for them to have to constantly readjust the sheets. Other than these issues, the kids had a fun time and were proud of the finished product. But, I did hear some comments such as “this is a lot of work” and “I’m getting tired” so, if your kid is the type to lose interest in a task quickly, or is perhaps on the younger side, I wouldn’t recommend this kit unless you’re planning to do the activity with them. I would suggest this is a craft for a slightly older age range of children since the fine motor skills and attention to detail this craft requires is more in line with an older age group. ... show more

I was a little concerned by the 3+ age and wondered if it was too simple for older children. My granddaughters are 7 and 9. I thought it might be a little too easy for them. But it was about right, it took them about an hour to complete one suncatcher. I actually think 5 and up would be a better age fit, I'm not sure the average 3 year old would have the dexterity without a lot of help and even then maybe not. I wish the colors were better differentiated, the yellow and orange are extremely difficult to tell apart. We found using painters tape to hold the color sheets in place behind and keep the suncatcher sheets in place on top very helpful. They both enjoyed their project! ... show more

These were easy to do, fun to create, and look beautiful hanging in our windows. Our 9 year old did this on her own but younger kids could definitely do this with assistance. We love this product!
