I’ve been using a box spring, mattress, and metal frame for what seems like forever. I had been considering changing to a more modern-looking platform bed for some time, but the set I have is so durable it will probably outlast even me. It's hard to part with something made from such high quality parts. So, with some hesitation I ordered this product in a Queen size beige. And while it is quite attractive, I’m still nervous about throwing out the box spring and metal frame. I’m actually using the box frame under the mattress now and while it makes the bed higher on this platform, it fits great. In a bit of time, I'll take the box spring out and try using just the mattress directly on top of the platform bed. If it works well, I’ll put it and the metal frame in storage, ‘cause honestly I’m a bit too attached to throw them out. As far as set up goes, it took less than an hour, and was really simple based on the instructions and numbered parts. Honestly, I’m not great with assembling things, so if I could do it, most anyone can. I especially liked the ratchet tool that came with it, making tightening and un-tightening the lugs and bolts a snap — that tool really was amazing and truly appreciated. The velour headboard and sides are a nice touch and it looks quite nice overall once assembled. That said, however, before ordering I was a bit worried about the quality of the parts and once I started putting it together my heart kind of sank a bit with all the plastic, particle board, and lightweight metal parts that didn’t really seem to be of a very high quality. It’s so sad that most furniture is made like this these days, however it does seem stable and hopefully will last. My first night sleeping on it had me out like a light, so I’ll continue to use it. However, after a period of time, if it starts to feel uncomfortable, or the wooden supports give way for whatever reason, I can always take my old metal frame and box spring out of hibernation. ... show more
