  • Be Forewarned - Read My Experience with This Satellite Dish
Style: Dual Output Color: Gray
Bought this about a year ago with the receiver bundle. Had issues with it from the beginning. There have been only a few times when I received ALL the channels, even with a clear view of the southern sky. It has always had great difficulty locking onto the HD satellite (129, I think). Defaults to SD way too often. Currently, even with sunny skies, Fox-CNN-Food Network-HGTV are all choppy and breaking up. I am a very unhappy camper, literally -- I live in a motorhome. Reception in virtually all western states I've traveled to is the same -- lousy. I have thrown in the towel and ordered a Winegard, which can be used with the 211z receiver. I am told Winegard is the gold standard. I'll come back and update this review with my findings. [Update April 20] I received the new satellite dish today from Amazon, the Winegard Dish Playmaker. After installing the handle, I walked outside and simply replaced the King unit with the Winegard by screwing in the cable - it's powered via the cable. After rebooting the receiver, the Winegard locked onto the 3 satellites and I was up and running with all channels, including locals, coming in perfectly in HD -- no choppiness, no drops, no defaulting to SD. After a couple of hours, it started raining and the dish was still pulling in everything perfectly. I can't believe I've suffered for an entire year with an inferior product. It wasn't the 211z receiver, it wasn't Dish network, it wasn't customer service, it wasn't the U.S. Air Force -- it was the lousy King product. It was an expensive lesson, but I'm happy now here in central Oregon. [Update May 2017] I decided to remove the dome of the King dish (don't do this, it voids your warranty if you still have one) to see what could have caused my bad experience. I discovered that there is no weather sealing--no gasket between the dome and the base. There was evidence that rainwater--a lot of rainwater--had accumulated inside and the interior was still damp. Gee, do ya think that could affect the electronics? (The unit was never sitting in water but mounted on a pedestal). Additionally, the tolerance of the horizontal rotating tray was very loose. It seems a slight breeze could have knocked it out of alignment. Your experience may vary. Perhaps your unit is perfectly pulling in all signals. Mine never did. This being my first dish, I just chalked it up to imperfect technology. Little did I know I had a lemon. Still, the design of the unit is faulty. Why have the dish if you have to cover it every time there's a rain shower? ... show more

  • Great products some installation gotcha's
Style: Dual Output with Receiver Color: Gray
So there items to only like and there are items to love. I couldn't give a 4.4 rating so I just went with 5 Stars. The entire package is the right way to go. Antenna and receiver included. If you cannot place the antenna at least 3 feet off the ground opt in for the tripod. I configured a small piece of plywood over a fence post to secure my antenna too and its working great. I can only speak to the Wally receiver at this time, that's the package I purchased. If you purchase the Wally receiver and Antenna the instructions are wrong. You don't just plug everything in and call to get activation when prompted. You actually need to call and activate before starting the scan process. The Wally receivers are different apparently and need the upfront activation. The Zip code where the receiver is positioned is important to getting local stations. If you choose your billing address of say RI and you are in FLA you will not get the local RI stations. Once activated you are good to go. Note the activation process is also where you will get to listen to the disclaimers and jargon regarding your account it only takes a few minutes but you have to answer yes and no for acknowledgment. You also pick your channel package and need a credit card to pay. The tailgater antenna...Automatic antenna is definitely the way to go. Some of my fellow campers have to move theirs around and perform a ritual dance to get things lined up. I live in Connecticut so here are a few tips. Download a compass app for your phone that shows you the degrees. Line the Antenna up so the front (non handle side) faces between 218 and 225 degrees (southwest), not just straight south. This gives you access to the 110, 119 and 129 satellites. Cloud cover shouldn't hamper your line of sight but a mere tree branch can wreck havoc. I'm getting mostly HD channels with clear picture with those settings. I will post additional information the first time it rains to let you know how it worked out. ... show more

  • 1 TV viewing Great, 2 TV viewing Not So Great
Style: Dual Output with Receiver Color: Clear(Smoke)
Likes- ease of use with 1 Wally, very few issues and reliable reception. Ease of install in RV roof with quick disconnect roof mount (purchased separately). Able to move on rv roof or off roof when camped in trees for reception if needed. Dislikes- secondary/aux Wally for bedroom tv very temperamental. Sometimes it works fine and sometimes it takes multiple reboots to be able to watch tv (up to 1/2 hr to get it going). Also note you can only watch channels that are on the same satellite as the primary tv/Wally is viewing which is documented in the sales info. Dish does a good job of organizing their HD & SD channels so to can work around this in most cases. Would rate 5 stars for 1 tv and would rate 2 for aux/secondary Wally/tv function due to the Wally reset complications/time required. ... show more

  • You wont be dissapointed
Style: Dual Output with Receiver Color: Clear(Smoke)
This unit was a breeze to set up and has worked flawlessly. I've had a number of satellite units on past RV's but until this one, they were all permanently attached. While there are certain advantages to having a unit affixed to the roof, it does limit its effectiveness when camping in an area that is partially blocked from the southern sky. This unit is easy to move around and can be mounted on the stand (which I purchased separately) or in many cases I strapped it to one of the air conditioner shrouds on the roof (careful not to damage the AC). However, in most cases, I mount it to the rear ladder. It may seem like a small thing, but it was very helpful to have a smoked plastic cover which allows you to see the action of the dish which helps in understanding where a Satelite is. One suggestion for the manufacturer is to have "mounting clips" on the unit to allow for effective/secure Bungy cord placement. ... show more
