Description

The Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detector, Plug In Wall with 10-Year Battery Backup, Digital LED Display, Voice Alerts, Test-Hush Button, model 900-0282, uses electrochemical sensor technology to detect poisonous CO gas in your home and alert you by sounding an 85-decibel alarm. Setup is easy as the Kidde carbon monoxide alarm plugs into a standard, 120V AC power outlet in your home, while a 10-year lithium battery works as a backup in the event of a power failure. When carbon monoxide is detected, the digital display shows the level of carbon monoxide the alarm is sensing and updates every 15 seconds, while an 85-decibel alarm sounds & the illumination of a safety light helps guide your way to safety when dense smoke is present. Peak Level Memory records the last time carbon monoxide was detected or when the unit was tested. The Smart-Hush button silences the unit for approximately 8 minutes, which is helpful when this smoke detector carbon monoxide detector combo sounds from things like routine cooking or shower steam. I got this model to replace what is now called the CO410 from First Alert. That is a perfectly fine CO monitor that had reached its 10 year life span in my home. This version from Kidde adds a sealed 10-year battery (rather than 2 replaceable AA's) and a built-in night light, plus its dimensions make it a little easier to use the second plug-in in the wall socket. I had the First Alert installed in a hallway with a separate nightlight squeezed into the second plug and had to unplug one any time I wanted to plug in the vacuum. The Kidde eliminates that little hassle. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 are 1) the night light level can be adjusted but even at the highest setting it is not really as bright as I'd like, although it is adequate, and 2) it is pricey at double the cost of the First Alert. If its advantages are worth it to you, I can recommend it. ... show more

I bought 2, returned both. I gave them a chance to fix the problem, it still had a battery failure. Even though it has a 10 year battery it was dead on both units.

We purchased two of these things. We installed them precisely according to the instructions and initially, everything went properly. Within about five minutes however, the unit started a random/periodic low-volume chirp. We thought this might be something random that occurred at start-up. But after 20 minutes of this, we checked the instructions to find that the chirping indicated "Low Battery/Replace Alarm." This was a BRAND NEW UNIT. Figuring that we might have obtained a bad one (it happens), we tried installing the second one, again exactly according to instructions. Exactly the same thing occurred. Our initial thought was that maybe the battery was low from the factory and that it needed to charge up. But there was absolutely nothing about this in the instructions. A call to the company 800 number was terminated after 25 minutes of "Your call is very important to us". Guess what? Our lives are very important to us. We will return the product and buy something else. ... show more

    • Dead Battery
Bought this at the local Home Depot. Two weeks later the low battery alarm is already going off! At the same time I bought this I also bought a Kidde smoke detector, false alarmed constantly. Kidde's quality has gone downhill, won't buy any more of their junk!
