The First Alert Two-Story Fire Escape Ladder provides a means of escape from a second-story window in the event of a fire or other emergency. This 14-foot ladder can hold up to 375 pounds at a time. It is constructed with steel anti- slip rungs and strong nylon strapping for strength and stability. The fire safety ladder can be used on standard windowsills, can be easily stored under a bed or in a closet for easy access, and comes fully assembled.

I live in a very remote area and have a full basement so two thirds of my house are about 10 ft up of the ground. We needed something sturdy, simple, and reliable to use in case of a fire. This is it. It is super easy to use, really sturdy, light enough for my 13 yr old niece to install, and long enough to get out of the second story window ( which is about 15 ft of the ground). I can't honestly say it works great because I am not willing to test it from the second story of my house unless I had to to save my life but it came well packaged and looks to be a very sturdy ladder. I hope I never need to find out!

Exactly as described and easy to use. We have storm windows and I was able to affix a 2 by 4 in the well between the sill and the metal storm to allow the ladder rails to rest level on the window.

For a Luddite like me, taking the ladder apart, testing it by hanging out the window and putting it back together again was a bit of a challenge. One needs to do that if one wants to become proficient and dangling it out the second story window. I’m thinking of getting a few more for other bedrooms in the house. It is sturdily made. The instructions say that you should only hang it out of a window on the second floor if there is no window directly underneath on the first floor that is a bit of a problem since all my windows on the second floor have a window below. So I’ll have to figure something out for that. . I didn’t climb out the window and use it. also, I have to cut down a small tree that was in the way of the ladder, but that was no big deal. ... show more

I live in an older apartment on second floor where the bedrooms are on the side of apartment away from the doors. I bought this just in case I ever have electrical fire in the front room I won't get trapped. I pray I never need to use it and hope I have the strength to climb down if I do but sleep better knowing that it's under my bed just in case.
