This is much better than the cheap “band-it” edge trimmer. Once you adjust the blade and practice a little, it works great. I had a large amount of edge banding to trim and it stayed sharp and produced great results.

The unit I received needed some filing to open up the throat of the unit so the blade could be properly adjusted. The rounded edges of the perpendicular slot protruded enough to hold back the blade. 5 minutes with a pattern file straightened everything out. I also sharpened and honed the blade. Works well now. I purchased this tool to complete a resurfacing project for my bathroom vanity, and needed this to trim the melamine edging on the cabinet doors/drawers, which was your standard 3/4" melamine. This tool did *not* cut a clean edge *at all*, and instead ripped the melamine like I was trying to trim it with a butter knife. The *only* way I could complete a cut was to employ an up-and-down sawing motion, which defeats the purpose of the tool! NOTE: I gave it TWO stars because it *is* a solid tool made of billet aluminum with a durable black powder coat finish, and includes a solid brass, well-knurled thumb screw. *Maybe* if I was forgiving enough to sit down with my whetstones and sharpen the blade it would be worth keeping. If you are OK with tweaking a brand new tool before using it--this one might work for you. ... show more

This is a decent edge trimmer. It has a sharp blade, and cuts nicely. It is a little difficult to adjust. But it is a very simple set up. It’s a good value for the money and I would get it again. I recommend for all woodworkers.

Poor machining unfortunately kept this plane from working. It wouldn’t as you can see in the pictures allow the blade to extend enough to shave as designed. I will have to spend some time on my milling machine to dress the imperfections to make it work. I can’t give more than a one. I will clean it up and make it work. But that is my personal time work. ... show more

I'm using this mostly to trim edge banding, which it works well in doing. The design is good, with a small groove to accept the bit of banding that you are cutting off. The angled blade cuts well, but should be removed and properly sharpened before use. The blade is not as heavy as you might find on much more expensive edge trimmers, like from L.N., but it works well enough. It fits in the hand well and drops into a shop apron pocket. The bottom side of the tool, which contacts the workpiece, is smooth enough not to mar the wood surface. This is mostly going to be used before sanding and scraping anyway.
