Top Amazon Reviews

  • Seven point Five Stars, Athens!
Size: Full
New boilerplate disclaimer being added to all my reviews as of 1/1/20: I do not, nor have I ever received any goods, money, or any other compensation or considerations for any of my reviews. Added photos 11-8-19 of mine installed. Bed size is Full, 10 inch thick Aveline. As you can see in one photo, there is 2 & 1/2 inches extra length to the frame, nice. Had thought about adding two 1x4 legs (easy drill & screwdriver job) to prevent future sagging, but have realized that, unless this platform is being shared by two 225# plus adults, it would most likely only interfere with storage space underneath. This bed made my room look clean, contemporary and far less cluttered. EXACTLY what I was looking for … I hate headboards, always throw out an arm and bust my knuckles in my sleep, lol. Wasn’t sure how to add this, hope it gets tacked on. Wow! And double Wow! I am very slow to write reviews … I don’t live on my devices … but I’ve gotten to this review as soon as possible. These people deserve some propers. Be brave, Amazon, and give the people all of this information … I searched Amazon for days, weeks actually, analyzing constantly with Fakespot and carefully reading all the 1 and 2 star reviews. I’m a senior living on limited income, so things have to last! I wanted a not overpriced, low platform bed to keep my newish, Full 10” memory foam mattress off the floor this winter. I was primarily just looking for a solid “A“ rating, and the least bad reviews. Amazon, bless their peapickin hearts, seem to often let the sponsored items fill the first few pages. I read page after page of legs falling off and mattresses oozing through insufficient supports, until I finally gave up and looked at IKEA. Now, I have not always lived in these United States (not a draft dodger, served 2 years though as a non-combatant), and first resorted to IKEA furnishings about 35 years ago while abroad ... mostly particleboard throwaways, good for kids and frequent movers who abandon their furniture. I thought I had decided on one of their mattress supports, but I couldn’t seem to access the actual reviews on their site, and Google reviews disappointed. I searched half a dozen other furniture sites. Nyet. Nada. Nope. Zip. Back to Amazon, going deeper into the pages, I finally found this bed ... not many reviews, but Straight A’s! About a hundred bucks more than I wanted to spend, but you get the more the more is worth sometimes, so I made the leap and ordered … and the results were more positive than I had hoped for or expected. I have some woodworking experience, and have friends who earn a living woodworking. It involves much more skill, patience, and investment in time and tools than the average consumer can possibly imagine, just to work a piece of wood into an accurately dimensioned piece of perfectly straight lumber, let alone finish it and shape it for a piece of furniture. I’m telling you this because I live in the Southern US. We lost a furniture manufacturer this year in my region which cost a small town over 3,000 jobs, and I am very pleased to tell you that this bed is made ... very proudly, I’m sure ... in Athens, Georgia USA, with poplar they say is sourced from Virginia. While poplar is more similar to fir than the average hardwood, it grows fast, straight and true in the South. Trees planted when you’re a baby may be harvested in your lifetime while generations of their replacements grow all around them. Poplars are beautiful trees, one if my favorites, but if you have to cut a tree, they are a truly renewable resource. So the box arrived, about 6 1/2’ tall and a foot around, no problem scooting it on-end to the bedroom. I stood the mattress on it’s long edge, opened the box, spread the parts out and read the directions. I was astonished at the quality of the finish and standards of the fit ... it’s bare wood (and I left it that way for now) with every edge rounded and sanded, every joint clean and a perfect fit. I found three small corner burrs that I polished off with a flat file, didn’t need more. I tried to imagine, as I worked to assemble (with the same style drum-and-bolt connectors used by IKEA and most furniture makers these days) the number of times each piece or wood would have to be handled to reach this state of finish ... a lot of attention and hand work by someone, and appreciated by me. There was some spalting in several pieces, brown to gray to black streaks. (Look up spalting in Wikipedia for beautiful pictures, enjoy the beauty in the wood, and contribute a few bucks to struggling Wikipedia for their fine work.) Ok, in my state of enthusiasm, I did put one of the end pieces, joining a leg piece, on upside-down (not as per instructions), and since it’s a glue peg fitting, it wants to stay together. You won’t do that now that you’ve read this, but if you decide to do it wrong anyway, don’t panic! You don’t have to damage your furniture. This type of joint should be cobbled together by tapping your hammer against a block of wood, or better yet, with a white rubber plumber’s mallet. Tap it back off, and hope a peg doesn’t stick in the wrong spot (only wrong if upside-down). If it does, plier grip and pull straight up and out ... you don’t want any sideways motion to break it off, because then you’ve created a problem. if you hear a cracking sound, back-off, and use a fulcrum to lever straight up. Better yet, think it through decorously over a bit of tea and get it right the first time. The instructions are clear if attended to. If the bed ever squeaks, I may disassemble carefully and apply some glue. I won’t have to worry then because, regardless of which piece the peg stays in, they will be in a correct position for reassembly. I can let the glue dry in one side, tap apart again and glue the sides that stayed in first try. To tell you the truth, I doubt that will ever be a necessity with occasional tightening of the Allen connectors. I brought my 93-year-young moms over to see the finished product, and she loved it. Seal of approval from a very critical observer and experienced furniture buyer! There are totally sufficient, closely spaced slats to support my mattress. Yes, the legs are on the corners. Stub your toes while making the bed? I’m sure if enough people would be willing to pay for the extra work (probably 75-100 dollars more to make it equally sturdy ... my estimate) I’m sure they’d consider making an inset-leg model. I’m cheap, so I’m just trying to watch where I put my toes. It’s working better every time. Increases consciousness. And finally ... Amazon may not like this comment: after reading scads of reviews of kegs falling off, I purchased a warranty for about 25 bucks at the time of purchase, sight-unseen , and wish I hadn’t. I’m going to try for a warranty refund. I doubt it will ever be needed for this item, unless you plan on moving frequently and incautiously and love insurance. Also, “kd frames“ (Knockdown Frameworks, the manufacturer) says in the instructions that they warrant against product defects for 5 years with proof of purchase. That’s good enough for me. I’d like to meet these folks ... let’s hear it for Athens Georgia, third and last place I saw Jimi Hendrix Live (Second Atlanta Pops concert) ... Rock on, Athens! Made in the USA! You might consider knee pads if not assembled on carpet ... Seven point Five Stars. ... show more

  • Excellent seller, excellent product
Size: Full
This order exceeded expectations in all three major categories: shipping time, seller responsiveness, and product quality. I ordered this on October 2, 2016 and received it on October 6, 2016. The estimated ship dates were October 6-12, so I was very pleased with the delivery time. I contacted the seller prior to receiving the order because when I checked the tracking number on UPS, it was 'voided.' Seller replied very quickly (within 15 minutes, though it was during standard business hours) via email and provided new tracking number. Now, about the item itself: it is very heavy. I was glad UPS brought it up my front steps. The box is also very tall and narrow and secured with 4 All pieces were plastic wrapped together with tools, hardware, and instructions wedged into the middle of the package. (So don't be like me and freak out when you don't immediately see a packing slip / instructions in the box.) It appears to be very quality hardwood, with very few knots and very consistent coloring throughout the wood. Slats were consistently cut/sized with minimal variation. It took about an hour to put together by myself, but was very easy and made sense. I barely needed to use the instructions. Take care to tighten the screws (head and foot board) and all of the bolts. My boyfriend and I (about 330 pounds combined) tested out the frame by lying on it (PG only, people!) and it held up nicely. No squeaking or unsteadiness. I also have carpet scraps under three corners of the bed to protect the hardwood floor and prevent sliding, but I don't think the frame will move at all. I bought this frame to upgrade from one of those crappy two-piece metal frames and it was an excellent decision. There's way more clearance under the bed. I was able to get rid of my (very) squeaky foundation and still maintain a higher profile bed due to the frame's height. I thought I would also have to replace my mattress which had an increasingly large valley in the middle. Turns out it a weak center board in the foundation wasn't properly supporting the mattress. Any quality frame would have made my mattress seem like new again, but this is the one I got and I'm really pleased with my purchase. I'll update in about a month when I re-tighten the screws and bolts, per seller's recommendation. *UPDATE* - November 22, 2016 - I have not yet re-tightened the screws and bolts but the bed is holding up very well. I thought there was a squeaking noise, but it was actually my floor (ha!). Easily handles 330 pounds of human (well, two humans) during activities. ... show more
