I have 5 of these. I recently bought one on a flash sale for under $20 and replaced a 15 yr old reel that was starting to show some age. I was VERY impressed with the quality and smoothness of the reel for the price. I ended up buying 4 more and replacing all my kids and wife's reels with these. If there was one drawback it would be that it seems like 2 out of the 5 have major issues with backlash and birds nests. Not sure why. I use the same line on all of them and we all basically use the same lures/bait. Just seems like 2 of them experience more line twist and things than the other two. And one last thing. Try not to get them wet. I don't think the inside is greased or sealed as good as others. My daughter dropped hers in the river and 2 days later the bearings show signs of rust and the reel started feeling like there was sand it in when reeling. The good news is I told the company about it and they sent me another one as a courtesy. ... show more

Came back to add comments four yrs later. Great reel. Still works great. I like this better than Megatron for twice the price. I'm not sure why I'd buy a reel over 100 when this is so cheap. I fish lake St Clair, Erie and Cumberland for bass. Love it.

With 12lb braid this reel casts and reels very well with no binding. A month in, this reel really couldn't be better, and I consider it an excellent value. I've caught many bass on it. It doesn't twist the line in regular use which I appreciate. I flip the bail manually each cast, and watch for line not laying as it should. It's almost trouble free and I'd buy it again. Update: after a 3 months this reel continues to perform well. The bail doesn't twist the line. Few wind knots but I flip the bail manually and watch for loops like a hawk. I bought a 4000 (black, not "Lite") and it was too big and heavy, so I returned it and bought another 3000 (black, not "Lite") which is a good size for shaky head, wacky worm, t-rig etc. I have several baitcasters and spinning reels and have fished since the 1970s. Read this review and go verify what I am about to write!! I bought this reel and at first the reel delivered but we had little technical issues, Kastking stepped up and replace my reel at no cost!! Take the time to go look at all the bad reviews KastKing went and reached out to all their unhappy customers to make sure they could make it up to them... I don't know about you, but as for me that's the type of company I want to do business with!! August 2016 I bought this in June and used it a few times this summer... at first it was doing well, but after a month of use it doesn't cast really good and the line guard is already jamming. the paint is pealing in between the part of the line guards creating junk and jamming the 2 parts. (Sept 8 2016) After posting this review a member of Kastking called me directly to see what was wrong and to talk to me about the reel. After a short conversation he saw that they might just be something wrong with the reel I got... so he offer to send me a new one. This is what makes the difference between a ok company and a great company, they stand behind their product. This is a 20$ reel but they sale it and back it like it's a 60$ reel!! I will send back my reel and come back to update on my experience with the reel. I did bring the star rating up to 4 because they reached out to me to make it right. (October 24 2016) I got my new reel within 2 days it looks great and works awesome. Caught lots of trouts and other fish with this reel! Awesome quality and customer service for the price you pay Kast King and their team outshine the big names of fishing equipment!! (September 7 2017) The reel still works like a brand new one, now I am the type of guy that fish every chance he as, I keep my pole in my car at all time. I put a lot of mileage on my gear and my summer spinning reel as been a trooper. I have put some nicks and dings on my spool and decided to call Kastking to see if they had a trick to smooth out those nicks, Paul said yes I do!! They are sending me a new spool I love this company and the service they give to their customer!! First Casking reel I have purchased and am impressed. Smooth action and good feel. The last reel I bought from this country of origin did not load the line on the spool evenly which led to wind knots and frustration. This reel loads line perfectly and is working great. Only flaw I have found is one crack in the finish on an edge, but likely won’t be a problem. Crank arm feels very secure and solid despite the fact it releases and swings out of the way with a push of a button. Very happy with the product! ... show more
