These are full sized dinner plates with a raised edge. I actually thought they were more like the pasta bowl shape, but these are definitely not a bowl. I've used them for spaghetti with meat sauce and several dinner salads and the edge kept everything on the plate. I've noticed no scratches from utensils and they did great in the dishwasher. They are heavy plates and the swirl pattern is very nice. They should hold up very well. I ordered a set of the pasta bowls from another site for a similar price but these plates are a much better quality so I feel the price is fair. I love these plates. They can be used for a wide variety of dishes including desserts, salads, appetisers, and tapas. The design pattern and color are really pretty and modern. They are thick as well. I also like the way they stack in my cabinets and dishwasher. They do not take up much space even though they have a lip. We've been using these for a while now and we all love these plates. We use them for everything except for a full meal at dinnertime. They're great to use for breakfast, as dessert plates, salads or sandwiches. So far, they appear to be durable and not easy to chip (unlike some other plates we've had). We throw them in the microwave, the dishwasher and the kids have manhandled them in the kitchen sink... without any issues. We love the high lip around the edge, and we've had lots of nice comments about the faux marble effect and how 'different' they look. We've had cheaper plates of this size, but because of their durability, versatility and good looks, these are a keeper. ... show more

Plates are heavy but we prefer to eat off of porcelain. This has a nice upturned border so peas won’t roll off. The color scheme allows you to use white, grey and black to match other table objects.
