  • Good Modern Day Solid State PC Unit, Can Do Some Limited Gaming As Well...
Size: 8GB+128GB/Intel Celeron J4125
I have had this about a week and have had no significant issues that would merit its return. Its a good buy for the money. There are two things I would caution potential buyers about that may come up: First, with Windows 10 as the default operating system, once its up and running you are going to be forced to login every time you turn the unit on by either a password or a pin number. There are several places in Windows where you are supposed to be able to disable this, but they don't work. You can read several variations on the instructions online about how to do it, so you don't have to enter this BS every time you turn the unit on, but you are going to be frustrated. Even if you create a separate, new user to bypass this, it won't work, and then you will lose administrator privileges to Windows in the process. I made the mistake of trying to shut off the Pin/Password requirement entirely and its essentially impossible, no matter what anyone tells you and no matter what you read in "Settings" about it being turned off. (You can eliminate one or the other, but not both. You can eliminate them for a particular user, but then Windows will give you an error on login and you will have to login under another user, without admin rights). The only solution if you get trapped in this cycle of nonsense with Windows is to reset the Kamrui unit to default (by holding down the shift key and hitting restart). - Otherwise you can't even reset to the default the unit came with, because you will no longer have admin rights to do that. You don't want to lose admin rights on this unit because then any software that alters the system will have to ask for admin rights to do so, which you no longer have... So my advice is just to live with the annoying task of having to enter a pin every time you turn the unit on. This is all a problem with Windows 10, not the Kamrui unit itself. Microsoft products continue to persist as mediocre crap no matter how many operating systems they release, always having annoying bugs they never seem able to fix entirely. ----------------------------------------------- A secondary issue I found is the following (and I believe this is also a persistent issue with Windows that goes all the way back to Windows 95 and they have never completely fixed): When you start loading files onto the Kamrui hard drive/solid state storage, it will not be able to accept various files with long file names (which is the case for instance with many website design files - if you have entire websites saved locally, as I do). Large numbers of files that I have had no problem transferring around on a Vista system just can't be loaded on this drive because Windows can't deal with the long file names, ONCE AGAIN, after supposedly they fixed this BASIC problem over twenty years ago... So in the process of moving some of your files to this unit from another PC you may find that large numbers of them simply won't transfer over. The drive seems to stall on particularly large folders of files and the transfer process just shuts down. (This is anywhere over about 5,000 files in a single folder tree). Sometimes the only way around this is to transfer individual folders one at a time, which is tedious. I have never had any issues on Vista transferring multiple gigabytes of files with up to 25,000 plus files in a folder/sub folder section. Doing it on this Kamrui is problematic. It will make you want to scream. Again, I think that is a Windows 10 problem, not a hardware issue. You have to ask yourself how Microsoft continues to release products like this with ongoing issues like this. Every time they come out with a new OS, you hope it actually works without major hiccups...and then... So even if you bought this with Windows 11 installed or went to the trouble of booting into BIOS to upgrade to 11 from a USB port, I wouldn't hope for it to be free of any major bugs. You may end up losing admin rights along the way. Then you are stuck resetting to default. My advice would be to try all these things out as soon as you get the unit, so if you have to reset to default, you haven't lost much work in the process (with any added software erased that you will have to reinstall or any added personal files you will have to reinstall again also). I was going to get rid of a 13 year old Vista laptop after buying this unit. Now I intend to keep it around. Microsoft never ceases to amaze me. How do they stay in business? In terms of gaming, to give you an idea, I loaded Steam on this unit and tried playing Left For Dead 2. It actually played fairly well to my surprise, with some lag once in awhile on swinging melee weapons... So where you might not expect this unit to be able to handle graphic intensive games, its more capable than you might think it would be. ... show more

  • I'm happy! Very quiet...
Size: Intel Alder Lake-N100/16GB RAM 512GB SSD
I purchased 2 of these and installed them on the back of old monitors to create all in one PCs. I had to get adapters HDMI to VGA adapters but they were not a major expense. Added wireless keyboard and mouse. Easy to set up. Very quiet. Space saving design. 16 Gb ram and 512 Gb SSD is a good selection. I'm adding a USB 512 Gb flash drives to double the storage access. Wifi and bluetooth works fine. Works very good right out of the box with no changes needed for average home web users. I think it would even work well in a small business setting. I can't see this working well for gamers but I am happy with this PC for my intended home use. ... show more

  • Fairly good computer, with some caveats
Size: Intel Alder Lake-N100/16GB RAM 1 TB SSD
I've had this computer for about 2 weeks now. I had some initial problems with it, but was able to overcome them. First off, because this cost under $400 you are not going to get a top of the line, super fast machine. What you will get, is a mini PC that has a processor about the speed of a 6-year-old i5 chip(according to Intel's website). Contrary to what a prior reviewer stated, this is not an engineering prototype chip. This is a processor chip that was commercially available at the time. According to the motherboard specifications, this Mini PC maxes out at 16 GB of RAM. That amount of RAM should work for about 95% of computer users. If you are in the 5% of users who need more than 16 GB of RAM, I would not purchase this Mini PC. Because the processor chip is about 6 years old in terms of power, you will not be able to run any cutting-edge software on it. In terms of using this Mini PC to play games, that can definitely be done but you will be limited in the types of games you can play on it. I would not recommend trying to play anything from a game distribution service such as Steam, Ubisoft, or EA. I had no difficulty playing any of the games from my GOG library, nor did I have any problems playing games from websites such as Gamehouse, Gametop, and Game Fools. Any web-based game should work just fine as well. In terms of real world applications being used on this Mini PC, programs such as Microsoft Office and any business productivity software should work fine. If you are doing photo and/or video editing, then things can get tricky: in my opinion, this mini PC is nowhere near powerful enough to run Adobe Creative Suite or any high-end photo and video editing software. If your photo and video editing needs can be accomplished with open source and/or shareware type software, you should be just fine. Also, most apps from the Microsoft app store should work without a problem. The mini PC I received came with Windows 11 Home. I did not need to jump through any of the activation hoops that the seller was warning about, I was able to create a local user account very quickly and without incident. This Mini PC will not come with a Windows 11 activation code, I'm guessing the reason for that is because the seller made some modifications to the Windows install routine? This sort of modification can easily be done with a Windows ISO image and software such as Rufus. Unlike some reviewers, I did not encounter any malware on the Mini PC. After about a week, I decided to remove Windows 11 entirely and install Chrome OS Flex onto the Mini PC. Overall, this is a decent Mini PC that should work for most people's needs. As long as you are not expecting this Mini PC to be a super powerful, beast of a machine (and install the appropriately powered software onto it) you should be fine. ... show more

  • Makes a great budget HTPC
Size: Intel Alder Lake-N100/16GB RAM 512GB SSD
I have owned this PC for about a month now. It's connected to a 65'' Samsung TV and outputs a very decent 4K picture via HDMI. Although I had to spend a minute messing with color themes. The box is very quiet, almost silent. Can easily be used in the bedroom. Couple of minor caveats: 1. Removing Windows and installing Linux was a bit tricky. The unit refused to boot from a GPT partitioned USB thumb drive. Something in the BIOS maybe, IDK. Ended up having to create a bootable USB using the preinstalled Windows (MBR partitioned) with my favorite Linux distro. 2. When set to max screen resolution (4K), max screen refresh rate I can get is 30Hz. This is good enough for my old eyes, but 60Hz or better is preferred for viewing of UHD content. ... show more
