  • Good for beginners or intermediate
This ukulele is a really solid piece for the price range and I would recommend it to anyone considering starting to play uke, as it is a very quality instrument for the price. Something to note, this instrument is LAMINATE, despite the questions tab saying it’s solid, it still sounds amazing tho and has an all around quality feeling build to it. This uke also has a set of tuners that are marginally nicer I find than the ones that can come on other Kalas. The wood is brilliant, with the black trim complimenting the walnut beautifully, in addition to very comfortable mahogany neck. Additionally, this piece comes with Aquila Super Nygut strings, I found it sounds significantly better with clear fluorocarbon strings, but that’s just personal preference. Overall a very good buy. The sound is solid, this uke can be quite loud for a soprano, and I have found that the PW resonates a little better than other wood types ... show more

  • Researched ukes to death before buying...this is THE beginner/intermediate uke that you want.
I researched ukuleles to death before selecting this brand/model. If you want quality in a beginner/intermediate instrument without breaking the bank, this is an excellent brand. I love the Pacific Walnut finish...the wood grain is gorgeous.. At this price point, you arent getting a solid body but the workmanship itself is solid...all seams are lined up perfectly and smooth, my fingers dont catch on any frets or rough wood. The black trim around the edge is perfect, tuners and strings are great, no issues. I am really critical about quality so believe me, I was looking all over for cosmetic flaws and could not find a single one. As for sound....a quick tune right out of the box and it was playing sweet melodic sounds. Of course...it will take a bit for the strings to settle in so I dont have to tune so frequently but other than that, I am incredibly happy with my purchase. Dont settle for a $30 ukulele toy that wont play worth a crap when you can spend a bit more (I mean really, only a little more than $100 for a perfectly playable instrument?) and have something that will not only last, but sound excellent for years to come. I would happily buy another of these without reservation. ... show more

  • One you will keep!
Pricier than the mahogany Kala. It very beautiful in the light wood. It has a really nice tone with a round resonance. It is my keeper. I sent back two other brands. There tone was flat. This one is so much better!

  • I really love this instrument
I really love this instrument. I have been a guitarist most of my life and a guitar builder in my youth (I'm 66). I found it very easy to tune after pulling up on the strings a bit. The action is excellent and the sound is open, smooth and unrestrained. The walnut is rich and highly figured. I was torn between this and the pricier solid wood models but at this price point it is hard to complain. I was also worried about the size since my fingers are used to classical and steel acoustic guitars but it is a dream to play. ... show more

  • Great uke!
I think Kala makes great Ukuleles and this one is no exception. The color is simply beautiful. The body is light and the action (distance of strings from fret board) is great so it’s an excellent little uke for beginners. 10/10 would recommend!

  • Need to tune often
The sound is great, but it does tend to go out of tune more than I would like.

  • Buy it!
Absolutely GOREGOUS insterment! It makes my other two ukeleles seem like childrens toys! The sound is so smooth and warm. The craftsmanship is fantastic. The little knobs (sorry, dont know the correct name!) That you use to tune at the top are like butter! So smooth!
