  • Solid Quality & Generous Ukulele Bundle for the Price! I'm picky & love it!
Size: Concert Color: Bundle w/ Gig Bag
I have seen some pretty lengthy reviews on ukulele's & as your average purchaser, I have found them helpful-- but will try to keep this a short summary!!! I have a 13-year-old daughter who wants to play the guitar and ukulele. The ukulele is a little easier to manage, so when I went in search of a QUALITY, but reasonably priced instrument-- this one fit the bill! Here's why MY research has shown this to be a great ukulele for the price: - it is a CONCERT size-- be mindful of the size. I believe there are 5 different ukulele sizes. This one is not too small or too big. - it has a Mahogany Neck & Body - it has 18 Silver Nickel Frets - it has Rosewood Fingerboard and Bridge - it has it comes stringed with Aquila Nylgut strings (which I don't know much about other than everywhere you read on the Internet, they are the best!) - it comes with a digital tuner which is especially important when you are just a beginner and it is EASY to use! Check on You Tube how to tune with a digital tuner-- it will take you just minutes. So there you go. It also has a pretty study carrying case which I found can run around $20 by itself. And it has a DVD to help you learn a few chords, etc. All in all, a really beautiful ukulele bundle for $115! ... show more

  • Great First Baritone Uke
Size: Baritone Color: Bundle w/ Gig Bag
This Baritone Ukulele is very nice to play and has a pleasant tone. This is a lower tone than a "traditional" ukulele as it is strung with D-G-B-E strings like the bottom strings on a guitar. You can use the same chord shapes as the smaller ukuleles but you will be playing in a different key. I find this very handy. The strings have taken longer to "settle in" than on my other ukuleles. I suspect it is due to the gauge and length of the strings. It is very easy to tune each time I play so that isn't a real issue with an electronic tuner. The wood seems to be well formed and the cream binding adds a nice touch to the finish. The frets and fingerboard are smooth and easy to play with no discomfort . I bought a bundle with tuner, case, spare strings and an instructional DVD. The case is not my favorite as it is thin and a tight fit. The tuner works quite well. The DVD is designed for beginners. The spare strings I received are Aquila New Nylgut - but I have not used them as the installed strings are playing nicely. ... show more

  • SLIGHT ISSUES
Size: Concert Color: Bundle w/ Hard Case
After doing quite a bit of research, I decided to order this ukulele (Kala KA-C) but accidentally ordered the Lanikai LU-21C. Once I realized my mistake, I tried to cancel my order, but unfortunately it had already shipped to my house (Amazon is so fast!). Long story short, I ended up with both items being delivered to my house one day apart. Since I'm naturally curious, I opened both boxes and looked them over. Surprisingly, I could find no difference between them at all and it would seem they were made in the same factory. I found this strange since so many of the reviews I had read here and on other sites contained very strong opinions over which one was better, the craftsmanship, etc. I returned the Lanikai (without playing it) and started playing the Kala. After a few days, I noticed that the "C" and "E" string's intonation at the first fret was off and buzzing a bit. This was confirmed with the chromatic tuner as well. I continued with my lesson plans, but the slight buzz and flat sounds when playing chords, started to annoy me to the point that I've decided to return this one as well and replace it with an Oscar Schmidt OU5. Maybe these problems could have been fixed by a professional, but I felt it was better to return it rather than spend any more money. So, bottom line is both the Lanikai LU-21C and Kala KA-C seem to be identical and the Kala that I received had some slight issues that necessitated a return. Hopefully, the OU-5 will be better. And just for the record, the Gearlux case while not top of the line, is very nice and worth the few extra dollars to upgrade from just a gig bag. The tuner works perfectly as well. As always, your miles may vary.... ... show more

  • Awesomeness in a bag!
Size: Tenor w/ Electronics Color: Bundle w/ Hard Case
Not a soft bag either. It is a nice case that is like a gig bag with a rigid interior and formed felt lining with a carry strap. Large exterior pocket to hold Uke chord chart. Interior pocket like full size guitar case. High quality just short of hard shell with less weight. Comes with a tuner but the Kala Ka-Te has a built in chromatic tuner on the controls. Contols have volume knob with bass and treble sliders. Excellent sound shaping is possible with the simple design. 1/4" guitar jack has a watch style battery slot built in. I expected 9 volt but accepted this as a viable alternative. Battery came installed. About 1 step out of tune out of the box. Tuned quickly and had to retune 4-5 times while playing then it stayed in tune with very little tweaking! Plugged into Alesis IO dock running garage band it screams on distortion amp emulators and sings on clean channel. If you never plug it in you will enjoy rich tonal quality with great projection. Compared to my Fender Hau'Oli it has a deeper richer tone. ... show more

  • Good ukulele BUT SOME VENDOR PROBLEMS!
Size: Baritone Color: Bundle w/ Hard Case
This was very good buy for a beginner! I’d would even recommend it to others. PROBLEMS: The reason I gave it a 3 star rating was it was difficult to accurately tune. I had to take it to a music shop and have them put new strings on it. That cost me $25. I was then pleased but contacted the vendor three times (by email). I hoped to get some free extra strings to make up for the $25 tuning cost. The vendor NEVER even acknowledged my multiple contact attempts. ALSO, the electronic tuner never worked. Fortunately I had another one to work with. AGAIN, none of my vendor inquiries was ever acknowledged by the vendor, which was disappointing. ... show more
