The earth here in NC is near impossible to install small items such as shepherd's hooks, tomato steaks & even clothesline posts. My area is not only dry, but rife with shale rock. My primary purpose was to put up a fee shepherd's hooks for hanging baskets, bird feeders & other lawn decor. As a retired medic with a damaged shoulder, getting anything in the ground, even as small as the items mentioned above is near impossible. This auger set changed that within minutes - using a standard DeWalt drill, it chewed near effortlessly through both earth & managed to displace rock in a way the not only was I able to install the aforementioned items securely, there was no damage to this product after having drilled through (either by fracturing or displacing) shale rock. This was not solid rock, but dirt that had been replaced by the local public works dept. with a much higher rock content than was originally in my yard. I doubt they would stand up against solid rock, but for the purpose listed, this is one of the best additions I've ever made to my manual lawn equipment; the post hole diggers are history! ... show more

For small projects like this baby rose of sharon sapling, my cordless drill works great! For larger holes (4" auger bit), I like to use a corded drill, just for more oomph. The auger bits are a real time-saver for planting & the dirt comes out of the hole already pulverized and perfect for re-planting. No dirt "clumps", like you'd get using a shovel! ... show more

I needed to install some support poles for new trees and, rather than breaking my back using a post hole digger, I thought I'd try this out, and I am so happy I did!!!! The smaller bit was great at making a pilot hole, and the larger one tore up my tough soil and made it SO EASY to install the support poles! VERY STRONG construction, worked perfectly with my battery operated drill! Since then, I've used it to plant 4 bushes in the back yard and now I'm wondering why the heck I didn't buy it sooner!!! ... show more

This has worked great for smaller bulbs and for just making a hole for a small post. They wash off easy and are coated so it cleans up well. Attached to my drill very easy just like any bit.
