  • It dos what it is supposed to do
Which is not necessarily true of all things. I am very happy with this product; I'm tempted to but another one or two to share with my brewing peeps. I have recommended it to some of them.

  • Not super easy to install and get a tight seal on
Joywayus Home Brewing Oxygenation Kit Stainless Steel Aeration Stone Beer Aerator Kit with 0.5 Micron Diffuser Stone We've been brewing beer every winter (hey it's cold here and we're inside way too much during the winter) for years now. We're replacing some parts to our kit and took a shot that this would do the trick since ours is over 10 years old and has some wear on it and it's really become a pain to clean. No, I'm not the brewer in our relationship so I am not aware of any of the proper terms for all the equipment although I do know how to use it. Although the parts have some substantial weight to them and feel and look like they are well made, they were impossible to seal; they leaked from the very beginning and weren't that easy to install. We ended up removing them. My guess is that the threads are not what they should be but they may work for other systems, I can only speak for our ancient one. ... show more

  • Good, Basic In-Line Aeration Kit
This is a basic in-line aeration kit for a fair price. If you are a home brewer in need of a way to add oxygen to your wort at fermentation, this will work. Just remember it is designed to work as the wort (beer) flows past, and is not designed to add oxygen to the fermentor. And it lacks sanitary (quick-connect) fittings that would make all that easier. FUNCTION: This T-connector allows the beer to flow through, with a side port to add oxygen, either with straight oxygen (your best bet for this purpose) or air (which is 20% oxygen and requires much longer to get enough oxygen into solution). The diffuser at the end is .5 microns, which is at the the fine (smallest hole) limit for this purpose. The good news is that it adds smaller bubbles this way, which are more easily absorbed into solution, giving you the oxygen levels you need. The bad news is it takes longer, clogs more easily, and is more difficult to sanitize (smaller holes being the cause of all these issues). In contrast, a 2 micron diffuser would work less well, but do better at avoiding the issues. BUILD: The stainless steel fittings and the diffuser are well-made. This kit does not have sanitary (quick- connect with gasket) fittings, but relies on regular plumbing threads. This makes it more time consuming to install, more difficult to seal (and avoid leaks), and more difficult to clean (and, if you're not careful, you can cut your hands on the threads in trying to get gunk out). If you have a system that uses a counterflow chiller (where the beer flows one way and cold water another way), or if you have a continuous flow (think HERMS or RIMS) system, this will suffice. And if you are thinking about such a system in the future but want a diffuser now, you could always buy this, remove the diffuser and run a hose directly from an oxygen tank (or aquarium pump) to this to get oxygen while you build your system. But a logical upgrade from this would be something with sanitary fittings that is easier to install, remove, and clean. ... show more

  • Nice stainless steel fittings and quality construction
The build of this aerator kit is good. All the fittings are machined well and screw together smoothly. Appears to be good stainless steel. The most important thing to consider with this inline oxygenation kit is how you’re going to circulate your beer post fermentation; unlike other reviewers you DO NOT want to circulate the wort pre fermentation with oxygen or any other gas aeration. My recommendation is to clear the headspace of your fermenter with carbon dioxide and utilize this inline adapter post transfer to a secondary fermenter or more preferable directly during transfer into a keg. Rather than oxygen I plan to utilize this aeration kit for carbon dioxide to reduce time for keg conditioning and speed up the time I can serve my beer at the tap. For this I suggest looking into a food grade transfer pump to recirculate the beer in the keg and a couple keg connectors, either ball or pin lock which ever you need. For best results with carbon dioxide, you’ll want to ensure the beer temperature is 40 degrees Fahrenheit or below. Start with a low pressure of 2-3 PSI and slowly raise the pressure every 5 minutes or so. For serving pressure you’ll want to be around 10-15 PSI but for this I would recommend going all the way to 20 PSI, letting the bubbles permeate into the beer for anywhere between 30-45 minutes. Afterward you can clear the headspace of the keg and drop pressure back down to serving. This tool should reduce serving time of beer in a keg from 1 days to about 1 hour. But you’ll want to set aside some time for cleanup. Make sure that you have a pressurize secondary keg with hot sanitizer water and fully flush the beer from the aeration stone. DO NOT try to clean this with any powder-based cleaners such as PBW or Oxyclean. You will clog the porous stone even if you’ve completely dissolved the cleaners, the stone will definitely be ruined. Instead, just use hot water to flush the beer and rinse the parts in StarSan or your favorite liquid sanitizer before your next use. ... show more

  • Threads are a bit rough
Unfortunately with stainless threads you run the risk of galling if the threads are anything but perfect. I had issues getting this to break loose after assembly even with the proper thread sealing tape. Maybe the one I got was an exception. The aeration stone seems well made other than the threads. I will have to try chasing the threads with a die before writing this one off. ... show more

  • Well made, nice materials.
If you are thinking about buying this, I assume that you already know what it is for and how you are going to use it. I am writing about the item and its materials, not the pros or cons of its use. I bought it to replace a similar item that needed to be replaced in my all-grain homebrew setup. The T is made of a high grade of stainless steel and should be fairly easy to clean and sanitize. The aeration stone itself is well made and should also be fairly easy to clean and sanitize. It should do what it is designed to do very well and will last you a long time (the one it is replacing is 25 years old). ... show more
