Top Amazon Reviews

  • Could’ve saved myself some serious coin
I want to write this review to hopefully give assistance to anyone looking to buy this Zombie head. I’ve been playing guitar for 17 years and have used/bought many different pieces of gear over that time period. I like to play Rock, Blues and sometimes want to shred some Metal riffs. I’m gonna try not to make this too long but I recently just spent about $1,000 on amp gear to try to get a rig that sounds good in my room. I first bought a used Fender Super Champ XD combo used off Craigslist and swapped out the tubes and ditched the 10” Fender stock speaker and ordered a handmade custom blue Weber 10” speaker which sounds killer and that little amp gives me beautiful Fender cleans and classic Rock crunch. Then I bought a new Fender Super Champ X2 head and the matching Fender closed back 12” Cab and replaced the stock Chinese Celestion with a brand new Eminence Legend 12” speaker hoping both of these would allow me to get everything from Fender cleans to Heavy Metal riffage but the Metal tones from the digital presets still weren’t quite as “legit” is the best way id describe it. So I already spent all this money and figured I was gonna have to make do. Then I remembered seeing these Joyo amp heads on Amazon a while back and decided to check out the Zombie which is supposed to be a Mesa Boogie clone and for basically the price of a pedal I figured what the hell, all I need is a Metal tone so if it does that hooked up to the new Fender 12” cab with the nice new Eminence speaker then I’ll be happy, money well spent. Let me tell you, this far exceeded my expectations. I’m not associated with any companies and have no incentive to heap praise on anyone or anything. This thing gives me all I wanted to begin with and if I’d started here I could’ve saved myself a lot of coin. Not only does it nail the Mesa Boogie thick Metal Crunch that I love (even better with my Maxon OD9 pedal in front of it just for a little more tightness) but the clean channel actually sounds really good too. I was definitely surprised. No it’s not the classic chimey Fender clean but there’s tons of different types of clean sounds (or distorted sounds) so Fender tone dosent mean “best” tone. I mean Marshall has a unique clean tone way different than Fender clean but many people prefer that so who’s to say which is “best.” All I can say is through my 1x12 cab and this Joyo Zombie I get a great clean tone either with my Strat single coils or my Charvel humbuckers they all sound great and when I want to hammer out some “legit” sounding Metal riffs well I can do that now too. So anyone who wants a cheap quick rig that can cover everything from pedal platform cleans to monster heavy riffs I would highly suggest buying one of these and just get a minimum 8ohm speaker cab with at least a 12” speaker and there you go, your off to the races enjoying creating guitar noises. ... show more

  • Sounds great. Costs little. But.
Torn between three and four stars here; This little amp really surprised me as far as how good it sounds; Considering the price point, it sounds awesome. Not great mind you, but definitely much better than anything I’ve gotten my hands on anywhere near this price point. As far as tone on the lead channel goes though, I have two thoughts; on one hand, it sounds pretty good; It’s got a relatively convincing high-gain mesa type sound. But on the other hand, from about 11:00 up, the gain changes very little, going from lots of gain to that sound you get when you have an overdrive with its volume and gain maxed out in front of an already distorted preamp. While you can get a good high-gain sound dialed in, I feel like it’s a bit of a one-trick-pony on the lead channel. Considering the price though, it’s hard to complain. On to where I am personally disappointed, but most people probably wouldn’t care: For me, one of the main attractions to this amp was the bluetooth; I had imagined this amp sitting on a coffee table with headphones always plugged in; While the lady of the house catches up on her shows, I could learn a song or two in relative silence, playing along with my iPhone. Just connect via Bluetooth, plug the guitar in, slap the headphones on, and jam. I’ve been looking for ages for a small setup that would do that for me while sounding decent enough for me to stay excited about practicing. The options are really limited, and it seems almost no-one wants to include a 3.5mm aux in as well as a headphone out. I’m starting to think no-one practices like I do, playing along with songs; After looking for ages, I’ve only found a few really cheap entry-level practice amps with aux-ins and headphone outs, and most of them don’t do cab modeling, let alone good cab modeling. After watching a few reviews of this amp, very little time if any touched on the Bluetooth functionality. Maybe I’m after a really niche use-case. Anyways, I have two complaints about the bluetooth: 1. It’s not really possible to get the Bluetooth signal loud enough to play along with AND have a decent guitar sound. If max out the bluetooth signal, you’ve got to drop the gain down to nothing to get the guitar quiet enough to be comfortable to practice along with. And 2. Even when you get the signals matching, the Bluetooth signal lacks clarity essential for me to figure out what notes I should be playing; I’ve got a pretty good ear and can usually pick out notes quickly, but I got frustrated with the lack of clarity, and it quickly outweighed the convenience of being able to just plug in and play. Just for troubleshooting’s sake, I connected this amp and my phone to a small 4-channel mixer, and set the levels appropriately. The clarity I was expecting came back, and I was able to learn a few songs by ear with no trouble. With this in mind, I might try out a pedal with amp/cab simulation built in, plugged into this same 4-channel mixer instead, and the Joyo might head back for a return. To sum up; if the bluetooth and silent practice are primary factors, maybe look elsewhere; But if you want to hook up to a cab and use for out-loud practice, this amp is hard to beat for the money. ... show more
