Easy to setup, configure, and activate. Initial tests in large metropolitan area (lots of cell towers and bandwidth for all carriers) showed good performance. Performance on one carrier dropped off during my testing and the router automatically switched to another carrier with more bandwidth. First trials in rural location provided enough bandwidth to allow me to work using my computer (e-mail, online apps, Zoom calls) and stream video to a ROKU device simultaneously. The TravlFi JourneyXTR is a 4G device, so performance isn't the fastest around, but at the price point for the router and the data plans, it seems to be a decent deal. My experience with customer service was also very good. I had a couple questions during setup and testing that I passed on to customer service via e-mail. I received a response in just a few hours.     • Signal Issues
This is a good router and usually have no issues, but the last time I used it, the signal dropped constantly and I had to reconnect. I gave it 4 stars because it was easy to set up, choose a plan that worked for me, and connected my computer to it. I just wish the signal was more stable for working from home. I used it at a campground in the city, so there was plenty of signal from cell carriers available. I feel like it should have been more stable. ... show more

    • DO NOT BUY!!!
TLDR: The bad reviews are correct, do not buy this piece of crap! The good - fairly easy to set up. The bad - you need to have Travlfi on speed dial AND their claim of utilizing all the major carriers is a lie. First trip with the Journey: Day 1 - No in motion cellular connection. Upon stopping for the night had to call Travlfi tech support (only 5 minutes) to get a connection. Ok. Day 2 - Again no in motion. Again had to call (20 minutes this time) to finally get a connection. Not happy. Day 3 - Again no in motion. Again had to call (another 20 minutes on the phone) to try and get a connection but this time they say "sorry, you're in a fringe area." I'm just outside Shreveport LA with 5 bars on my phone (AT&T). This piece of crap will be returned. Update: So later that night of day 3 I decided to power the Journey back up and now it connected and with full signal. Day 4 - In motion worked! Got to our stop and the power blip from switching to shore power caused the Journey to reboot...and no connection! Powered off for 30 minutes, rebooted, and had connection. This crazy! In addition to all of the above, the highest through put I've seen is about 6 meg. However, after a couple hours of streaming it drops down to about 1-2 meg which results in near constant buffering, pixelating and unwatchable TV. Also, T-mobile is the only carrier I have seen it use except when the carrier name was blank! The Journey may or may not be a reasonable piece of hardware, but the Travlfi data plan so far falls way short. ... show more

    • Fantastic solution
We just did an almost cross country trip to get our new travel trailer home. Among the logistics we carefully planned, I knew I wanted some way to have reliable internet access wherever we stopped (campground Wi-Fi, if available, is notoriously poor), and ideally, whatever device I bought would also be able to grab my home internet signal and repeat it to the trailer once we were home for a secondary workspace. The Travlfi Journey XTR does exactly that and then some! The first night we stopped I set it all up and had working internet within ten minutes or so. Please note the antennae are labeled and have specific places they attach to. Our cell phones only had one bar in this wooded campground, but the Journey XTR showed medium signal and it was more than enough to do normal stuff on our devices. While the Travlfi website does say this is possible, the biggest and most pleasant surprise to me was that the Journey XTR worked while we were in transit to our next stop. As we were getting ready to pull out from our first stop, I decided to turn the inverter on in the trailer to power the outlets, providing power to the Journey XTR while we drove. To my surprise, it absolutely did not miss a beat. We had perfect internet, plenty fast enough for the kids to online game on their Switches or iPads. This is with all people in the tow vehicle and the Journey XTR back in the trailer. Again, this is advertised on the Travlfi website, but it was pretty mind-blowing in practice. Now that we’re home, it was relatively painless to set it up to use my home internet and provide solid enough service inside the trailer in the driveway for Zoom meetings and all normal work from home stuff. Additionally, Travlfi customer service is great. I initially bought the 50GB plan, but we burned through that pretty quick and needed to buy more. While it’s a little weird you can’t just buy more data on their website, the experience calling to do so was quick and easy. Buying additional data is prorated, so it was just another $20 to go from the 50GB to the 100GB plan. There are a handful of internet solutions for RVs that seem to dominate the internet guides and YouTube videos (Starlink, Pepwave, Winegard, T-Mobile Home Internet, etc.), and all have their drawbacks. None seemed like the right balance of price/performance/user friendliness, so I took a gamble on Travlfi (which there isn’t a ton of info about available online). I’m thrilled by how well it worked out. The only drawback, and this is very mild criticism, is that for someone who only knows how to follow guides when it comes to networking, there wasn’t a good YouTube guide available to follow and the technical guide from Travlfi felt a little opaque to a layman. For background, I successfully set up a Ubiquiti home internet network in 2020, so I’m not helpless, but definitely reliant on guides and clear instructions for how to do networking stuff. It’s not problematic by any means, as the basic functions are essentially plug and play, and the Wi-Fi extending function has its own manual on the website that I followed to get that up and running once we got home.     • I've had it a year now...
...and I would not buy it again or even recommend it. The speeds are wildly inconsistant. Monday it may be great and Tuesday it may suck. It loses connection to the internet and sometimes won't reconnect until I unplug it or reset it. I've come home from work and found that at some point through the day it disconnected and didn't reconnect and therefore my security cameras weren't working either. Read that sentence again. It's not a dependable device and certainly not worth $300. Support is iffy at best or at least from this Outdoor power company that was selling the one I bought. I've only had one tech actually get online and fix whatever the problem was and the rest just gave me reasons why the service was so bad or told me that I could logon and try to fix it myself. Hahahaha. That's tech supports job. I really wanted to like this router and was looking forward to a great experience with it. Unfortunately it's been everything except pleasant. ... show more
