  • Quality Hardware
Style: WiFi 7 Size: 3-Pack
I went through a couple of “cheaper” iterations of whole home internet using a nighthawk router with extenders before trying to take the dive into mesh with an eero network, which seemed much affordable, but I truly thought maybe even mesh wouldn’t work for our 5000 sq ft home. After several days of lost work time without the ability to make video calls (and even when I could it was on my mobile hotspot with a hefty overage bill from my wireless carrier), and a cranky toddler and wife with inconsistent access to the internet, I decided to bite the bullet and invest in the Orbi 970. One router and two satellites later and I’m getting down-/upload speeds greater than 700 Mbps WIRELESSLY! And my Ethernet connected devices are reaching 1 Gbps! It’s finally reliable, flawless, easy, and extremely capable WiFi. Well worth the cost. I won’t be looking back at the “cheaper” headaches. ... show more

  • Great extended WIFI
Style: WiFi 6 Size: 2-Pack
With the Orbi RBK852 Mesh WIFI 6 system set up in our home the reach of our WIFI has never been better. Our house has a usual layout and before adding the Orbi Mesh system the WIFI was spotty in certain parts of the house, at best. NO more! Our WIFI now reaches everywhere in the house with the main router upstairs and the Satellite set up downstairs in a central location. We are very happy with the coverage and speed this new system has provided for us. ... show more

  • Easy setup, great coverage, FAST connection.
Style: WiFi 6 Size: 2-Pack
I've never written a review for anything in the past but hopefully this helps add a bit of clarity around what can be expected with this router/satellite, especially given the price. After many hours of researching the RBK852 Wifi 6 router/satellite combo (the $650 version), I decided to give it a try. I was hesitant at first given the negative reviews on Amazon, but in light of the overwhelmingly positive reviews from nearly every tech site I read (with the only real 'con' listed across most sites being the price), I was banking on negative experiences being a result of either QA issues that slipped through the cracks or simple human error. That said, I'm reasonably tech savvy, so I figured/hoped I could get a good result. In the interest of full disclosure, I've only been using it for 2 days - so time will tell if what I write here remains true in the long run. I'll update this review if things turn out differently. Setup: Took about 30 min from unboxing to completion. Really straight forward using the Netgear app on my phone. In the app, your able to setup the network, change the default SSID and password. Unlike most other routers I've worked with, there is no need to configure the 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz networks separately; the router handles the broadcast of each using an identical SSID and assigns each connected device to the frequency best suited. I followed another reviewer's recommendation to setup the router with the satellite a few feet away, then moved the satellite to it's proper place. This seemed to work just fine, I don't know if I would have had an issue otherwise. I have the router in a small downstairs office and the satellite in the upstairs game room. Speeds: The farthest point in my house away from either the router or satellite is about 60 ft (in a straight line with walls/doors obstructing line of sight). At that farthest point, I average 400Mbps. In a room with the maximum number of walls between me and either the router or satellite I get around 350 Mbps. Most places in the house average 650 Mbps. If I'm in the same room as EITHER the router OR satellite, I'll get a minimum of 960 Mbps, frequently hitting over 1 Gbps. I've experienced no loss of connection moving through the house and have had no issues to speak of, whatsoever. Conclusion: If you're looking for a whole-home, high-speed wifi setup and have the money to spend, I'd definitely recommend giving this a try. I've had a few high end, "high-speed" wireless routers in the past, but nothing that comes close to the speed and coverage of the Orbi. Your experience may differ, but at the moment, I regret nothing. ... show more

  • Save yourself a headache as well as a few bucks and just buy an Eero
Style: WiFi 7 Size: 2-Pack
Although the speed of this WiFi mesh network is great, the reliability and glitches are big detractors. I purchased two of the Orbi 970s for coverage of my 3500sqft home with AT&T Fiber 2gb/s. For context, I was upgrading from the standard issue AT&T hub and WiFi extender. The set up process for the Orbi was fine, but not without hiccups, including an initial botched setup secondary to the Orbi app timing out, I was impressed by the speed of my new WiFi network - clocking in at close to 2gb/s was mind blowing. However, my joy was short lived. The first issue I began discovering was that the range did not reach as far as advertised - it would not reach several of my outdoor Ring cameras that the standard issue AT&T router could. So I played around with moving the satellite Orbi and even physically moved my Ring cameras closer to my house on my backyard fence. Eventually I got it all working, only to have it start dropping cameras on the front of my house. Ugh. Frustrated I decided to purchase a Ring Chime Pro to serve as a connection strength booster for my cameras. Good - it was finally all up and running Or so I thought. The Orbi now keeps dropping my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. And the devices will not reconnect unless I turn off WiFi and then turn it back on. And this consistently happens several times a day. And it occurs when I’m not walking around, so it’s not like the Orbi is trying to transfer from one satellite to another. I’ve tried everything - turning off private WiFi address, reconfiguring IP addresses, resetting network settings, rebooting the network (yes it’s the most up to date Orbi firmware). Imagine the frustration when you are downloading a Mac system update and the internet drops for no reason and creates a whole mess of frozen MacBook bliss. Been there. Imagine trying to browse the internet and webpages randomly stop loading. Yup, been there too. It’s very frustrating and happens without warning - my stress level is as high as this Orbi’s price tag. Ok I’m being dramatic, but you get the point - this is all very frustrating for such an expensive system. And it’s made worse because I just recently set up an Eero mesh network for my mom and hers has been working flawlessly. Not only was it easier to set up, but the performance and reliability has been superior. Netgear is an old company and I think we are seeing an example that older is not always better. Needless to say, I’ve decided to order myself an Eero. Unfortunately I am out of the return window for the Orbi as I kept trying to fiddle with it, changing settings on my devices, etc. So I’ll be eating the cost of the Orbi. Please learn from my mistakes. ... show more
