  • Great shoes.
Size: 8.5 3X-Wide Color: Black Calfskin
I really like the quality of the materials and finishing, they have lot of cushion inside, all leather. I bough the 3E wide, so the were very comfortable since the beginning, I have high instep so I use an stretcher tool an after 1 day the were perfect. I went to a dance party in the first use an everything was good, specially for the leather sole, super smooth. They run half a size bigger. ... show more

  • decent shoe; hope to find a better one
Size: 10.5 Color: Black Calfskin
I recently graduated college and decided to buy some decent dress shoes after years of cheap JCPenney and Kohl's versions. Note: I wear the shoes slightly less often than one a month. My job doesn't require dress shoes, so I wear them to funerals, weddings, nice events, and work (sometimes). Look: These shoes have the nice visual design I like - classy but not too classy. The leather is so shiny and had so few scuff marks compared with previous shoes I've owned that I've never had to shine them in 18 months and several people have asked if they're patent leather (they're not, right??). Sizing: I started by ordering a size 12 because that's the size that usually fits me in all brands, and the listing says these shoes run true to size. 12 was too big, so I ordered 11.5....then 11.... then finally ended up at 10.5. Other reviewers have mentioned that the sizing is inconsistent, so maybe this means not all the sizes are way too large? Quality: pretty good. About 18 months later the shoes still look pretty similar to when I bought them. However, the break-in period is brutal as others says - I still wouldn't say the shoes are *comfortable* even 18 months in - they're just ok. ... show more

  • Dance beater shoes.
Unlike most reviewers here I didn't buy these shoes as dress shoes but rather as a beater for social dance and walk-around shoes so my review is a bit more athletically oriented. I've had these for about three months and they look beat to hell...the shiny black is so scuffed up that they now pass for matte. Oddly enough I get lots of compliments off the dance floor. This is what interested me. --Weather-resistance unlike most dance shoes. --Resolable leather sole. --A leather lining. --Double leather in the heel and the toe. I alternate these shoes with others at least every other day; leather shoes should never be worn two days in a row because the dampness quickly rots out the leather. I managed to break them in over the space of three weeks and 15 miles when the area over the toes softened enough to be comfortable. These are very stiff shoes with thick soles which you may never break in if you only use them in the office. The leather sole is treacherous on even slightly damp surfaces. Be mindful. Fits 1/2 size too big according to the Brannock measuring device, with about 3/4 an inch in the front, so if you're 9.5 go with 9 or maybe even a 8.5. You should buy these shoes if you don't mind breaking in hard leather; if you prefer high quality and durability than, say, Dockers; if looks without a huge price is important to you; and if you don't mind the fit being a bit off which is the danger of buying shoes online. UPDATE 5 months later: I added a star back in because the "black shiny version" buffs out beautifully when saddle soap is applied. This shoe hasn't been prone to cracking at all so the shiny black leather you typically see in cheaper shoes must be a different kind because it has been very durable so far. These shoes, once broken in, are completely comfortable and the insides haven't torn apart. UPDATE 9 months later: I've walked at least 90 miles in these shoes and possibly twice that. The leather sole on one shoe has gotten paper-thin on one side and the other side has a hole in it. A resole cost about $35. ... show more

  • Don't pay full price, but worthy shoe.
Size: 10.5 Color: Black Calfskin
I've worn the shoe for a few months now. Within minutes of wearing the shoe I noticed a small horizontal crease forming and I was shocked that a shoe of this caliber would crease so quickly. However, because of the stiffness of the cap-toe the shoe really only bends in one spot when you walk and over time the small crease didn't really get any bigger. I wish however that a higher quality leather is used in the Melton by J&M, I expected better. At least they should design the shoe away from a single crease point. The shoe is comfortable and fits true to size, meaning I am wearing the same size as a Brannock device would size my feet. These are made in India and are a little shinier than I thought they would be. The sole is leather and is showing a little wear even after a few months. I paid about one-hundred dollars for this shoe from a sale Amazon was having, I would not pay more than that for the Melton. So at that price I'm not even sure I would get these re-soled in a few years if they needed it. You can get these pretty cheap at J&M outlet stores as well. Overall, I recommend this shoe at around $100. It goes just as well with business casual as with a suit. It's very versatile and comfortable. It will form a small crease almost immediately, time will tell me if it creases even more. The leather is not soft enough to prevent instant creasing unfortunately. Another small complaint I have is that the laces look really cheap and feel plasticy. As a side note I wonder why Amazon.com has prices so much lower than their Zappos.com subsidiary. That's the case for almost every shoe that both sites carry and the customer service to me is identical, both offer free returns/exchanges. I wonder if Amazon actually sells factory seconds (like an Outlet version of the product) and Zappos sells what passed quality control with highest marks. ... show more

  • Superior craftsmanship
Size: 9 3X-Wide Color: Burgundy Calfskin
These dress shoes were worth the cost. The natural shine of the genuine leather testifies of its superb quality. The shoes may be expensive but they also look expensive. The quality is unmatched.
