The finish is imperfect, with some gaps between the pieces requiring filling prior to use in a residential kitchen. The finished side looks good, although there are some very short lengths overall incorporated. It arrived very dusty from the final sanding stage and needed to be vacuumed before handing. I read all the reviews before making this purchase and will attest to them this is a “bait and switch” to some extent because the product is not a John Boos product. One can tell this by the clearly stamped global industries logo so it should be reported to Amazon. With that said, I was not looking for a butcher block to prepare food but rather a table for my kitchen bay window eating area. For around $200 dollars though it was the cheapest block I could find for its size. First things first: The packaging it was shipped and was so bad that the straps that held the cardboard box together had eaten into the wood on the side that should be considered the top so it came extremely damaged. The block itself still had a large amount of dust and scuff marks on it that needed to be sanded and cleaned before I even started working on it. With that said, if you were looking for a piece of wood that you will not prepare food on then this can serve the purpose. I sanded and polyurethane it but I would imagine that after a good sanding you can also be rub certain oils on it for food preparation but you would still need to go through the process of preparing it. This is definitely a buyer beware to understand what you’re getting. ... show more

I will add to the chorus of other reviews: this listing is totally dishonest. — This item is not a high-quality John Boos block, as was advertised in the listing. — This item is a low-quality Global-Industrial block. — This item is not oil-finished, as advertised in the listing. — This item is not finished at all. — This item is not adequately package, and therefore arrives damanged. For what it is: the price is right: however, the listing is very dishonest and should be corrected. Furthermore: better care should be taken to assure the product is not damaged in transit. I don’t intend to return it because I can finish it myself and run it through a planer to strip the damage done to the surface in shipping, but this listing needs to be correct as it is totally dishonest. ... show more

While the specifications of the product were correct, the brand and description were not. The brand was advertised as John Boos and is actually Global Industrial. Further, the top was not finished at all which was clearly indicated in the product description. Unfortunately did not notice either of these items until I had already installed the legs and drilled into the wood. ... show more
