  • High Quality, Rugged and Durable
I don't know what took me so long to order my JOBY Gorillapod 5K kit. Looking back, I could've used this in many other situations--but for some reason, never really considered getting one. Now that I've got it, I'm happy I did. For reference, my camera is a Canon 80D with battery grip--and my lens is the 24-70mm f/2.8. The ball head that comes with the Gorillapod holds my rig nice and snug. The Gorillapod legs stay where I put them with no drooping or sagging. In fact, the legs of the Gorillapod are so stiff, it takes a little muscle to position them how I want (which is perfect). Once I get the thing set up the way I like, it doesn't move. The ball head has is high quality--all metal parts--and the knobs have rubberized grips that make them easy to twist. It almost feels like a fluid head when panning--there's a little bit of smooth resistance. The base of the tripod head has a numbered 360° scale so I can accurately repeat pans and adjust my position. When I go on vacation, I usually bring my monopod. It breaks down into smaller pieces, and I pack it in my checked luggage, so the size isn't that big a deal--but one thing I've noticed is that I don't usually use it once I get where I'm going. For some reason, lugging it around just doesn't sound "fun"--so it stays at the hotel, un-touched. I'm looking forward to using my new Gorillapod on my next trip. It's less than half the size of my monopod, and the ball head is much smaller than the fluid video head I usually use. I can toss it in my camera bag, and if I need a stable shot--I've got it. When I want to go handheld, it goes right back in my bag--no problem. My primary tripod can get fairly low to the ground--but not as low as this Gorillapod. I've never shot macro before, but I'm intrigued by it. With the Gorillapod, I'll be able to position my camera almost at ground level. Having a stable platform that gets me this low and close to the ground might motivate me to get a macro lens and give it a shot! Overall I'm very happy with the quality of this little tripod--and I don't know what took me so long to buy it. I wholeheartedly recommend the Joby Gorillapod 5K kit. ... show more

  • 4 for 1 deal
I ordered 1, but received 4 instead (at no additional cost). Generous, but I don't think I can make use of the other 3. The tripod itself is sturdy, stable, and relatively lightweight. Four 5K kits at $100 on sale is quite a steal.

  • Flawless Performance + High-Quality Build = The Perfect Tripod?
I have a very... For a lack of a better word... Girthy setup. While I have a lighter weight DSLR, my 2.8 lens is massively heavy, especially in vlogging position. In fact, the lighter body and heavier lens makes the camera VERY front heavy. I tried my camera on an old 3k Pod, (grey and black version), and it instantly collapsed (it was old and not as effective, however.) This one, however, works like a charm. I even wrapped it around a railing on a cliff edge with no fear! The red and black color scheme looks perfect with my peak design strap, 24-70 lens, and rode mic. The materials are premium quality, utilizing very grippy rubber for the grips, solid metal for the ballhead area, and high quality plastic. The ONLY CONS: if you want something lightweight, this is not it. The premium quality and top of the line effectiveness for larger cameras requires it to be heavier. If this is your only tripod, its perfect, but carrying around two tripods (like I often do) can be a little heavy. Secondly, I would've liked to see a level on it. The older one had one which rocked, but this one doesn't. While that doesn't matter to me at all for vlogging, it does for photography. ... show more

  • Very Unstable with my Nikon Z5
I returned this item as it was nearly impossible to achieve any stability on a table top with my Nikon Z5 and 24-120 lens Also, the ballhead quick release is not an Swiss Area style so basically you have to replace the bullhead. This is really a small unit. I'm going to give the Siruri table top tripod a try instead. This model was supposed to be for DSLR's. I'd recommend you go elsewhere, this just isn't up to the task. ... show more

  • Too expensive for what it can do.
First of all, I bought it at BF 2018 Deal price, but I decided to return it just after a day of in-house testing. I have several cameras small and big, lenses small and big, so I tested various combinations. Long story short: It is too expensive for the usage it is good enough for. I think the tripod is worth $40-50. At that price point, I would keep it. It is good to use with a small mirrorless camera, or DSLR like Canon 5D Mark III + 24-105mm lens flat, or lens pointing ~45 degrees up/down on a flat hard surface. Anything more demanding than that, you are risking your gear. Would I use it with a 100mm focal length lens for a long exposure: NO Would I use it with >100mm focal length lens in any orientation (e.g. 70-200): NO Would I risk my gear on an uneven outdoor surface with 24-105mm kind of lens pointing up/down: Mostly no. Would I use it for a super-macro photography: No. I am not saying that the tripod claims more than what it actually can do it, I am saying it is too expensive for its intended purpose. I have a 30$ table top small tripod, that I can pretty much use for the same purpose. This $100+ tripod doesn't let me do anything more than that. Finally I read some reviews (not my personal experience with it), that its legs would give in after being left in car in heat, that would make the tripod useless for me. And finally I found it awkward, that a $100+ tripod didn't even come with a carry bag/pouch, that was disappointing. ... show more

  • Best small tripod for everyday!
This product is perfect for travel and it's strong! The part that hold the camera is made out of good matel and I have no fear when it's holding my big Cannon mirrorless camera. 10x10

  • Great on the fly tripod!
Great tripod,I love the larger size because it gives you a lot more stability. I sent the smaller one back. It’s great for on the fly moments when you don’t want to have to think long and hard about how you’re going to get the tripod set up.
