I waited a couple weeks to review this to give them a chance. The first day they were great. They stayed lit till past 11 p.m.. Then every day after that they'd stay lit for 30 minutes to an hour. So I finally realized which direction the sun was coming from and moved the solar panel thing. Still only stayed lit for about the same time period but in all fairness it's been cloudy in New York. So I still gave it another chance. I have one set on my porch mixed with led electrical lights so it's not as embarrassing when they don't work. Then I wrapped the other set on a front tree. The front tree, what a disappointment. Today I decided to rearrange the lights on the tree after the panel has been in direct sunlight for a fully 24-48 hours, just rearranged the wiring because I thought it could use improvement on the tree. Well . . . now they won't work AT ALL. This literally just occurred. It just got dark outside and I thought maybe I accidentally turned them off when I rearranged them - no. They just simply stopped working altogether. Very disgusted, not to mention it's embarrassing. But I'm gonna go ahead and buy LED electrical lights for the tree. Don't waste your money. UPDATE: They're so pretty that I had to come back and update. I kept them up like I said, and after I took down my other x-mas lights (the electrical ones after the holiday) I decided to keep my fairy lights up because they're fairy lights and they can stay up year round if you feel like it. They did end up working again. They're harder to stay lit on cloudy days. And I think what caused the problem before was that we had a lot of ice around that time period, but thankfully the problem corrected itself. They're gorgeous when they light up, so even though they don't stay lit long on cloudy days it's worth it - that' show pretty they are when they're lit. Plus you're not wasting energy, win, win. When I ordered this two-pack, one of the light strings didn't work. The slip inside the box said to contact the company with issues, so I did (through email). The responded the next day, telling me that they would send me a new set of lights, and I didn't have to return the non-working light string. Sure enough, a new set of lights arrived quickly, and they both work just fine. I would order from them again because they really care about customer satisfaction! ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Edit: 2nd year using these and still work great. Snow, rain and freezing temps, but still working great. So I was about to return these, cause I thought they weren’t working. Turns out they go on in the evening on their own. They ended up being very nice. I love that they’re solar and I don’t have to worry about plugs. When we have had heavy fog they were a little dim or turned off around 10pm instead lasting through the night, not a big problem. They have been working great through light snow and heavy rain, which I think is awesome. ... show more

I purchased these to go in a craft project I do - the lights go in empty bottles for the garden. I call them "Liquor Lights". I had been buying Solar light strings from Lowe's & was paying about $9 for a single string with 50 lights & no special effects. These with 100 lights per string & special effects appeared to be a better value. But when I got the 2-pack of lights, even after allowing the solar panels to charge in the sunlight for a few hours, only 1 worked out of the box. So I ordered another box with 2 strings...the same thing happened, only 1 of the strings worked out of the box! I obviously know how to work them - the 1st string from each box work fine. The lights look great, & the effects are cool, but if I have to buy twice as many to get them to work, they are not a very good value & certainly not worth the hassle! ... show more

8 modes, but it seems like 6 of those are nearly identical. There’s all lights on steady, half of the lights on for maybe 10 sec, then fading to the other half on. All of the other modes seem to switch between various timings of chase/twinkle and it’s pretty hard to tell the difference between them. I like the slow/medium chase/twinkle effect, but it seems like every mode eventually transitions to a strobing “seizure” mode. It’s on the borderline of awful but it usually switches back to a less abrasive look quickly enough. This seems to be common for this type of controller. Otherwise, I’m satisfied with the durability and performance of these lights, especially considering the price. I have set these lights up repeatedly on camping trips (and burning man style events) and they have survived being packed and unpacked multiple times, being strung through trees, and stepped on when displayed on the ground. I get lots of compliments on my lighting displays made with these lights. The battery provided (800 mah) seems to last about 1.5 nights in a twinkling mode on a full charge; and it seems like a full charge takes about 8 hours of direct sunlight. I upgraded mine to a 2400 mah AA battery, and can now get ~4 nights on a charge (I charge them in a separate battery charger or put the solar panels in front of a lamp for a few days). You can also replace the rechargeable AA battery with an alkaline battery (just need a Phillips screwdriver) if you’ll be running the lights in a place that doesn’t get adequate sun. It seems like you can get 4+ nights with a Rayovac. And unlike other AA powered lights, these turn on at dusk and off at dawn, making sure your battery power is conserved. ... show more
