  • Easily the best sub-$15 pen that I have encountered.
Color: Wine Red (Gold Trim) Style: Extra Fine
About the only realistic value comparison is the Jinhao X159, which was also a value breakthrough when it was released. But I find the 9019 a great improvement. The build quality feels like a major step up -- the overall fit/finish is very good. The plastic is satisfyingly thick in all areas, and doesn't feel flimsy anywhere. Very large and attractive nib. Also, I flushed the nib with water before use, and found traces of blue ink -- this confirmed other reports that Jinhao is doing some actual QC steps/testing on the nib/feed. It was reflected in a perfect writing experience that required zero nib adjustment out of the box. Better than many high-end pens I've owned. This adds enormous value at this price point. My nib is EF, which is highly recommended if you need to do any small writing or math. These Chinese nibs tend to run large. Best to think of them as one size larger than advertized. The pen holds an excellent quantity of ink -- the new converter design holds more than double that of a standard international converter. A very welcome improvement. I went with the wine color, which I find pleasing. Nothing spectacular, but nice. The size and shape are extremely comfortable to my long fingers. Possibly the most comfortable writer I have. But, this is an area that you'll need to think about -- the pen is very big, compared to the average fountain pen. It's large enough that certain modes of carry start to become inconvenient. For this reason, I don't use it as a "carry everywhere" pen, which is a bit of a pity, because the price/quality/features would otherwise make it ideal for that kind of use. Almost nothing can compare at this price. Two of my other value favorites are the asvine v126 and the penbbs 480. But, each of those are *multiples* of the 9019's price. ... show more

  • Stylish and functional
Color: Olive Green Clear (Gold Trim) Style: Fine
I wasn't sure if I'd like the size of this pen, as it's bigger around than a typical pen, but it feels really nice in my hand. The nib is well made and the ink flows very nicely. I haven't had a chance to use the ink cartridge converter yet, but it looks like it holds a good amount of ink. It was hard to choose just one pen because of all the color choices...I may need another one in a different color. ... show more

  • Great pen for the money
Color: Transparent Clear (Gold Trim) Style: Extra Fine
I wasn’t sure about this pen but now that I’ve used it for several days I can say it’s a great pen. I’m left handed and I like a larger diameter pen body and this one fits the bill. The weight and grip are ideal my my journaling needs. The extra large converter holds a lot of ink and the large extra fine nib provides a thin line that dries quickly, which is important to me. A great inexpensive pen that is ideal for beginners. ... show more

  • Great pen, body and feed, scratchy nib.
Color: Transparent Clear (Gold Trim) Style: Extra Fine
You definitely get your moneys worth out of this pen. Fantastic construction and converter. Very wet feed. The nib was super catchy and scratchy on my rough sketch book paper. The problem was rectified using a micromesh nail polisher. I had to do the same thing on my Ahab Noodler.

  • A surprisingly lovely pen
Color: Light Blue Clear (Gold Trim) Style: Extra Fine
I have fountain pens that range from very inexpensive (like this one) to several hundred dollars (investment pieces!). I have purchased several Jinhaos at this point, and I've been impressed with their stability. Ink flows well, the nibs come pretty smooth without "tuning up," and this pen, in particular, has a very healthy ink supply. I believe one could convert this to an eyedropper fill if desired, but the converter holds plenty of ink. Overall, this pen hits way above its price point. ... show more

  • Not great but could be worse
Color: Wine Red Clear (Gold Trim) Style: Medium
I couldn't pass up trying this fountain pen with the price point being so low. It is very comfortable to use, and the very large nib somehow makes you want to write with the pen. However, the flow is spotty and the pen scratches on the paper. I noticed some papers (the more absorbent) seem to enhance the ink flow, but it still leaves a lot to be desired. Again, it is very comfortable to hold due to it's size, but with the ink flow and scratchiness, I would NOT buy this again. ... show more

  • Fun and functional
Color: Piano Black (Gold Trim) Style: Fine
It's a gigantic pen with a huge beautiful nib. It feels great in the hand and is a lot of fun to write with. The extra large converter that comes with it is also great because you can write all day with that much ink.

  • Love this but...
Color: Transparent Clear (Gold Trim) Style: Extra Fine
This is a great beginner pen, but it is hard to clean. I had just a very small amount of ink leak into the pen cap while I had been carrying it in my backpack. Went to rinse it out, but it just pushed the ink further up the inner wall of the cap and I haven't been able to get it out. As far as I can tell, there's no way to separate the walls so you can clean it well, and the inky water is now slowly dripping out of the cap, so I'll have to wait to use the cap again. Otherwise, the pens flow is great, and I love how much the inkwell holds. Just make sure that you don't travel with this or jostle it around because of how you can't really clean the cap. ... show more
