Description

Jiffy Pellets are made of sterile peat growing medium, enclosed in a decomposable net. This net biodegrades in garden soil or compost, but it retains strength through the critical seedling and transplant stages. No pot is needed, and the growing medium offers great aeration and water retention. Speed and degree of decomposition will vary with soil or compost conditions. Each 3/4" thick compressed Jiffy peat pellet expands to a 2" diameter (50 mm) x 3-1/4" tall cylinder , ideal for larger vegetable transplants. Promotes great root development.

These are GREAT! Since they are the BIG peat pods (50mm), most veggies and flowers wont need to be transplanted into bigger pots. They stay nice and evenly wet and they have given my veggies and flowers a GREAT start this year. The big box of over 400+ pods will last me 2+ years if I keep them cool and dry! Great investment! Also, some people say the fabric covering restricts the roots... I am not at all experiencing that! the roots poke out very easily and Id hate to pull it off and harm those roots! I might cut some slits if there are places with no roots, but I dont think its necessary! ... show more

Everything is growing great!! Happy I went with the number 50 size. Have found it easier to turn pods upside down for the first soaking and then turn them over to get the bottoms wet

The pellets are compressed, so they don't take up nearly as much storage space as dirt and pots. They are relatively easy to use, though jamming plastic tags down into the peat is difficult. And they use up both vertical and horizontal space better than anything else I've found. I can cram 50 into a 1020 tray. They are cylindrical (not pyramidal) and they're about twice as tall as the pots that will fit in the same space. Overall, I'm pretty happy. Out of all the other ways I’ve planted seeds this is far the best. There is plenty of growing room for the plant so I don’t have to switch the plant to a bigger tray when it’s bigger andI can put it right in the ground. They germinate so quickly as well. Will always use these
