Description

The Angry Charlie has become a staple of the JHS line over the years, and it’s a force to be reckoned with in the high-gain pedal territory. Its ability to convincingly and accurately breathe JCM800 tones into any rig has made it a popular choice for guitarists of all genres. And unlike many other British amp-in-a-box pedals, the Angry Charlie V3 sports a 3-band tone stack, just like the Marshalls, helping nail those warm yet searing tones and boundless sustain. If you are a glutton for high-gain overdrive/distortion that has a British flavor, the Angry Charlie V3 will change your life. Well, your gear life.

  • Great Pedal
Style: Bonsai Pattern Name: Pedal
There is a lot of good and useful sounding effects in this pedal. It has the actual chips and NOT a Modeling unit. I really love the TS7. and the 808. The 808 sounds just like my 808 on my board.I put them head to head and the JHS is the real deal. I have never owned or used a TS7 prior to this, but the TS7 setting is a mean sounding overdrive. I am using the TS7 for leads. I think that this petal adds serious versatility to any players board. I love this petal!!! ... show more

  • It doesn’t sound like a modeled version ... it sounds like the real deal.
Style: Bonsai Pattern Name: Pedal
The JHS Tube Screamer is my favorite versions of all the tube screamer pedals I love. *** Truthfully, You could just buy the real “Tube Screamer” pedal you love most if there was one in particular that you liked and it would be fine ..... After all, some TS pedals are so negligibly close in sound .... The 808 & TS9 are almost the same.... Yet all the others on this pedal seem a little more noticeably different. The Tube Screamer is my Top 3 favorite distortion pedals of all time, so for me to have a few varieties of them in one pedal is great. I’ve seen the reissue 808 sell for about $200, and the TS9 sell for about $100.... To me ... I felt it was worth it because it’s exactly what I wanted. I paid slightly over $200 for my JHS Bonsai. *** Remember this will not be 9 radically different distortion pedals in one, rather a collection of variations on a particular one..... The Tube Screamer. It does it AWESOMELY. I had an Ibanez TS9 on hand and did a quick A/B comparison and felt it was a perfect match off a quick listen. *** If you love the gentle warm distortion of a Tube Screamer and can’t settle on having just one ..... Then you’ll want this pedal. ... show more

  • The end-all of tubescreamers!
Style: Bonsai Pattern Name: Pedal
Although I already had a Ibanez TS-808 for many years, I failed to figure out how to dial in the tones I had hoped for and I essentially never really used it other than to say "yeah, I have a TS-808." With the down time due to COVID, I really tried to sit down and (again) attempt to utilize the TS-808, only to still find I was underwhelmed. Around this same time I became aware of the Bonsai and purchased one, and within a few minutes after plugging in I had the tomes I wanted, as well as many more. This pedal is fantastic! It's extremely versatile with the selection of so many different tubescreamers at the turn of the dial, I don't really know you could possibly go with any one of the standalone originals. All of the settings sound very authentic and the additional "modded" version setting are extremely cool to have in an arsenal. As I now have the JHS Bonsai on my pedalboard I have sold TS-808 and am very happy with it. I would highly recommend anyone who is looking for "a" tubescreamer stop looking and just purchase the Bonsai immediately! ... show more

  • Very musical pedal, highly recommend
Style: Angry Charlie Pattern Name: Pedal
The Angry Charlie has a great sounding distortion and the active eq is very versatile, which is a very nice touch as most pedals have lower fidelity passive eq's. It's modeled after a Marshall JCM 800 amp, so it's voice certainly leans that way, and it leans that way extremely well. It's a fairly high gain pedal, however, it sounds gorgeous at low gain overdrive settings as well. What shocked me the most was how quite this pedal is even at extreme gain settings. I've owned many dirt pedals and I have never heard one this quite. I hear virtually zero hiss coming from it at even the highest gain settings. The circuitry and quality of components must be outstanding to get this level of quietness and musicality. In this case you are definitely getting what you are paying for. There is really not a bad sound on this pedal and the usable settings are broad and work well with the guitar volume knob. I own a strymon sunset which is also an outstanding overdrive/distortion pedal and this is on par with the sound quality of that pedal. It would be very unlikely you'd have buyers remorse. ... show more

  • What I’ve been looking for.
Style: Double Barrel Pattern Name: Pedal
I’ve been looking for a ‘main’ overdrive sound. In my head it was a tube screamer with a little bit more. I’ve tried multiple pedals; a mini tube screamer, a jhs Superbolt, a ts with a morning glory in front. I loved that last one but I had to change the sound of my morning glory from how I would normally set it to make it sound like it did in my head. I decided to try this pedal and now my search is over. I am extremely happy with this pedal and I’m so happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • 9 tube screamers in one box for the price of a decent reissue of one. Outstanding in every way.
Style: Bonsai Pattern Name: Pedal
It is every screamer you want, and they are each superb. You’ve got classic straightforward ones, impossible to find ones, modded ones, it’s a study in insane attention to detail combined with heavy duty construction. Went through a lot of different ones before this, and this has all the sounds I want from the genre for money in the realm of a reissue for one of these pedals that it duplicates precisely. ... show more

  • Extremely versatile
Style: Morning Glory Pattern Name: Pedal
One of the most versatile overdrive pedals I’ve ever used. Very flat EQ response until you really push the gain and then it has a slight mid compression. It works really well stacked with other pedals or as an always on pedal to give you the sound and feel of a cranked tube amp on the edge of breakup. The red mode is fantastic For some extra gain. The red remote is a great addition that gives you the ability to kick in a higher gain sound with a little more output without touching the knobs. ... show more
