Computer science guys and new to audio world, and man its vast and confusing Our string instrument (Esraj) was not sending sounds to dynamic mics in local live performances barring environmental noise. Hence immediate need was to assemble a solution with least moving parts. Final requirement was for a loud speaker speaker and a mic (AKG C411 phantom power). The speakers are generally ok. I bought two speakers planning to run a wireless sound system for a gym (other than power cable). The first problem I ran into is that the stupid app isn’t available for my Samsung tablets that I’m using to run the sound. I used my iPhone to set the speakers up. Problem then was that I couldn’t consistently get them to both work. Sometimes I could Bluetooth the sound to both, sometimes only one or the other. Eventually I had to use the pass through plug to wire the second speaker to the first. The bass still just isn’t great on these but at least I get sound from both speakers now 🙄 ... show more

The speakers are well built, sound great, and the mixing controls provide rich enough features for solo gigs, and small gatherings. I use the pass through cable to link two speakers together and Bluetooth from my phone to the first speaker in the chain. The speaker itself would get 5 stars, yet the app makes me give 4 stars overall. Battery life appears to be as advertised and it is really convenient to go to a venus and not have to worry about pulling power from somewhere. The phone/tablet app is an entirely different matter. You need the app to wirelessly link the two speakers. I used the latest firmware for the speakers and latest iOS and app version. When syncing the speakers together wirelessly as a speaker group, the sounds regularly skips and playback speed changes faster and slower in the middle of songs. JBL should know that reliable - unbroken - audio delivery is critical in a performance setting. You cannot have your playback gap and sputter nor should playback speed up to sound like the Chipmunks. All the other bells and whistles in the app are "cool", yet reliable sound is absolutely critical. Without reliable sound the rest of the app features are meaningless. If JBL really puts effort into cleaning up the app and make speaker groups feature solid then this review would get the full five stars. The only way to undo the mess the speakers are left in is to perform a factory reset (easy to do). Fortunately, these speakers have so many ways to physically connect to each other and other audio equipment that you can get great performance if you toss the app aside. ... show more

Overall volume was underwhelming. Sound quality was ok, not as good as would expect. Better connectivity than most other comparable products. The app controls was the most disappointing feature of this speaker. It doesn't even have a vu meter to show your levels or even a clipping indicator. So if you don't need the mostly useless app control, save yourself a couple hundred and go with the Behringer MPA40BT instead. I have both and the sound quality and volume actually seems better on the Behringer. ... show more
